Meditating, Hiking and Camping at the Manistee Forest

Spent three days here fasting, hiking -- close to 20 miles -- and meditating.

steve really beautiful places

i saw a tiny flower standing out in the cracks of the cement and it reminded me of this post.

it's nice to see your shots in the forest as well, feeling the source of peace and inspiration you may find from your travels there

Nice, being single has its benefits, I'll tell you that.

Did you go by yourself? Did you do a total fast, (water/liquids only), or just less food?

Cherry juice tea and water. No food. Total fast by your definition. i am used to it though. Once went on a two week fast not so long ago and fasted since my early 20's.

Haven't done 2 weeks, or even a week ever, yet.

I have been fasting one day every week for quite a while, did 2 days a while ago, years ago did 3 or 4 days.

It's not easy with a family and food everywhere.

To gain some freedom from food is liberating. The body demands so much out of us and can make us into a slave. It can be much more challenging when we have so many activities in our life. It keeps the body and mind restless. When we find time for soul growth and manifestation we gain freedom from the demands of the desires of the body.

Yes. That is mixed with green tea though. i had straight cherry juice unsweetened. There are cherry trees up this way. We get cherries to make us sweet and the tart ones to keep us smart. Green tea if you please.

Hard to find fruit juice that is not mixed or made with concentrate, or some kind of sugar. If you do, most of the time it tastes horrible to me. I have found fresh fruit with almonds and pecans, ground to a smoothie, is the ticket. But hard to have that handy on a 3 day hike.

well, I would just pack a compact electrical generator, one can of fuel, a compact blender, 25 pounds of fresh fruits, 2 pounds of nuts. At the end of the hike, when you are more tired, you are packing minus 27 pounds of food and minus 3 pounds of fuel.
I doubt though that the generator can weigh less than 30 punds.

The problem I see 👀 with this approach is that we end up taking our desires with us when we might have initially started out with the idea 💡 of going on a 'spiritual' pilgrimage. Carrying such weight on a 20 mile hike can make your back and shoulders quite sore and it is difficult to fast because your energy will not b like it is while eating.
Especially while carrying such 'weight'.  U will not want to fast. These type of  experiences r a tremendous opportunity to loose attachment to food since the beauty of nature fills the senses and helps keep the mind off this tremendous desire and attachment we humans have for food and satisfying the desires of taste.

You know, I used to have long hair all thru my 20's, into my 30's I believe, longer than yours. Then in order to play the game and fit in to the new kind of job I wanted, I had to cut it. I could feel the pressure of society against pony tails. Ever since, I've worn it above the collar, above the ears, like a friggin sheep. It sucks in a way. Every time I hit the barber, I cringe. It may never grow back til I retire.

That's personal taste and willingness to bear the inconvenience.

I found long hair requiring more time to mantain and being akward in summer.

I did not notice any significant increase in strenght with long hair, as the yogic theory goes, although probably a specific technique is necesary to draw unusual strenght and energy thru the hair, something similar to the technique allegedly practiced by Samson.
