There are many paths, and each person considers his own the best and wisest. Let each one choose that which belongs to his own temperament.

Love is as water of the Ganges; it is in itself a purification.

Bowl of Saki, December 25, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

When God's divine love rises as a wave, it washes away the sins of the whole life in a moment, for law has no power to stand before love: the stream of love sweeps it away.

Ego is a natural part of this experience! Suffering is natural. Suffering is not BAD. It's for a higher purpose.

Love is unlimited, but it needs scope to expand and rise; without that scope, life is unhappy.

A gain or a loss which is momentary is not real; if we knew realities we should never grieve over the loss of anything that experience shows to be only transitory.

The truth cannot be spoken; that which can be spoken is not the truth.

Bowl of Saki, January 6, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

Truth is that which can never be spoken in words and that which can be spoken in words is not the truth. The ocean is the ocean; the ocean is not a few drops of water that one puts in a bottle. Just so truth cannot be limited by words: truth must be experienced...

   from  https://wahiduddin.net/mv2/IX/IX_34.htm

...the truth cannot be put into words; all we can do is make an effort to render the mystery of life intelligible to our minds.

Peace is perfected activity; that is perfect which is complete in all its aspects, balanced in each direction and under complete control of the will.

Bowl of Saki, January 12, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

It is useless to discuss the peace of the world. What is necessary just now is to create peace in ourselves that we, ourselves, become examples of love, harmony and peace. That is the only way of saving the world and ourselves.

A person's inclination is the root of the tree of his life.

Bowl of Saki, January 14, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

The real inclination of every life is to attain to something which can not be touched or comprehended or understood. The hidden blessing of this knowledge is the first step to perfection. Once awake to this fact, man sees there is something in life that will make him really happy and give him his heart's desire. He can say, 'Though there are many things in life which I need for the moment, and for which I shall certainly work, yet there is only that one thing, around which life centers, that will satisfy me: the spiritual attainment, the religious attainment, or, as one may even call it, the attainment of God.'

Such a one has found the key to all happiness, and has found that all the things he needs will be reached because he has the key to all. 'Seek, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you... Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.' This kingdom of God is the silent life; the life inseparable, eternal, self-sufficient, and all-powerful. This is the life of the wise, whatever be the name given to it; this is the life which the wise contemplate. It is the face of this life that they long to see; it is the ocean of this life that they long to swim in; as it is written: 'In Him we live and have our being.'

Thought draws the line of fate.

Bowl of Saki, January 17, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

As mind is naturally impressionable, that means that man is naturally impressionable too. Most often his illness, health, prosperity, failure, all depends upon the impressions on his mind. They say 'Lines of fate and death are on the head and palm,' but I would say that it is the impressions man has on his mind which decide his destiny.

The one who can live up to his ideal is the king of life; he who cannot live up to it is life's slave.

Bowl of Saki, February 28, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

The ideal life is at least to try to live up to one's ideal. But in order to have an ideal one must first awaken to an ideal. Not everyone possesses an ideal; many people do not know of it. It is no exaggeration to say that the wars and disasters we have gone through, the unrest that all feel, and the disagreement among the people which is sometimes seen and sometimes not seen, are all caused by one thing and that is the lack of an ideal.

I would respond to this that many of us have an ideal but our ideals have railroaded us out of town by others who do not care to hear them. Worst yet in many countries people are imprisoned, poisoned and murdered because others do not want their ideals to be heard.

I think all that can be done is to be a person of character - like Navalny - and attempt to live our ideals. He has been quite an example to me. And his wife continues his legacy!

I see my ideals change over this life from worldly goals to much more spiritual ones. I’m grateful for seeing that before passing over. To bring something more important along with me.

Bowl of Saki, December 23, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Not so sure this is always true. I already had a path layed out before me. And then started seeing Amma. I told her followers that I already had a path and was happy about it. However, they kept encouraging me to start the IAM techniques. I did eventually and was quite happy I did so. It has never replaced the Gurus I follow, nor their meditation practices. I found that Amma’s help only encouraged my spiritual practices and she gave me a mantra with Yogananda’s name in it. I remember asking her about my guru and spiritual practices. Her response was; “All the same. All the same”

I have respect for your path Eric and I find it inspiring at times. I see nothing wrong with learning and growing through a comparison of spiritual experiences and practices. I also find that we have become more aware of political and social realities through our interactions. I do not see it as a deterrence to our spiritual progress if it is kept in perspective. I will admit that at times the intensity of it is such that it is best to refocus on the most important part of our spiritual life and quest if we find that we have too many distractions and differences. There are enough similarities and higher levels of communication that have made our friendship last, which I sincerely appreciate and hope to keep cultivating over and beyond everything else.

I have decided to take up this conversation further in a thread called ‘Balance’ which I just created under the heading ‘satsang’.

everything you've done was in accordance to your will. while we live and breathe we are discovering. your path is that of steve hydonus, a unique personality in which god has the privilege of experiencing. you are dancing with the lord.

someone asked me last night if sufism was my decided belief system. i told them yes and no. no, i am not religiously sufi. but, whatever path i find my self on- i find the guardrails of truth.

"in the house of my father are many mansions"

the father is consciousness itself.

In some of best moments, i have seen steve hydonus as a fiction. Yet at other moments I do identify with certain role playing. I’m holding on to something here but often see it as a passing phenomenon. The more I meditate the more I see such people I’ve become as passing energy of desire in the drama 🎭 we find ourselves. Consciousness appears to me as something we are striving for, and we are becoming in this process. Consciousness fluctuates and has somehow become what our senses perceive. I do not know how this has happened but we are here communicating in these bodies as we’ve experienced.
