In the Present

Sometimes while meditating i attempt to do nothing after practicing meditation techniques, because even in prayer there is an earnestness an effort. In very silent meditation there is no effort. I’ve often been at temples when it was so quiet that if there was any sound of for instance snoring, sneezing, coughing or vehicles in the background the depth of meditation reached by the room of people would be disturbed and take you out of the apparent blessing.

I can say this about meditation at home as well in for instance the stillness of the night or somewhere in nature. The only difference for me though is that there is really something to the these scriptural words; ‘Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I shall be also.’ Because it does seem at times that the spiritual vibration can be multiplied by the presence of other people meditating together. This is why Paramahansa Yogananda always recommended meditation at centers and with others when possible.
