God is trying to evolve the art of right living by expressing His truth through a combination of particular civilizations, mentalities, and nationalities. No nation is complete in itself. The art of right living can be found in a study of the best in all nationalities, plus a study of the individual lives of the great saints.~ P.Y.

I see lesson 88 as somewhat of a scolding. Perhaps it’s because I feel guilty but I will reread it over and over till I can conquer the technique Paramahansa Yogananda suggests to practice here. It actually combines prayer with yoga breathing.

I find from personal experience that it is true that if a person is not applying proper concentration on an issue they can make critical mistakes in judgement. In lesson 88 Paramahansa Yogananda gives the example of a Judge who is ruminating on problems he has with his wife while making an important decision. P.Y. Says that if such a person should pass the death sentence on such person because of his lack of concentration he would stand condemned before the Great Judge — Cosmic Law

I know that most, if not all, misfortune that has fallen upon me is karmic in nature, however I am very aware that at times I’ve been falsely accused of things, for which many of us have. Paramahansa Yogananda gives an exercise for developing super concentration in this lesson, so that we do not make critical mistakes in judgement when we are called to make the right decision about other people. It is imperative to be calm and not let the sway of emotions cloud our judgement.

Even if one finds they cannot meditate because of constant commotion in their environment there is a time when we go to bed or just wake up that it is possible through this technique Paramahansa Yogananda gives us in this lesson. It is similar to a practice Amma also teaches in the IAM meditation routine that involves savasana (laying down).

I attempted the technique that Paramahansa Yogananda recommends laying down in bed (in savasana ) and the first couple times I attempted it, I was discouraged to realize how many times I forgot to keep looking at my third eye. But then I tried it again and was encouraged by the the length of time i was increasingly able to hold  my breath as I approached practicing it 12 times. It surprised me since I thought the time would be less and less but instead it was more and more, during periods of peace. I’m sure I’m going to be practicing this much more in the future.

“Om-Spirit-Christ” “Om-Spirit-Bliss”.

I couldn’t remember what was emphasized in lesson 88 on developing concentration. Which first involves praying. After praying, I see that the inhalation is only to refresh the lungs and then exhalation takes place while the chanting of ‘om spirit bliss’ continues in a breathless state. The emphasis is on the silent state and the peace occurring, when the breath is out.
