The demonic smells cited above remind me of the episode described in Durga Mata's book on St. Lynn, Yoganda's most evolved disciple. One day on the Encinitas lawn, while he was relaxing in the sun (St. Lynn was a supporter of living in nature, exposing his body to sunrays, fresh air, bathing in the ocean and so on) he started smelling something revolting, unidentified. He could not discern the source of such smell. Durga Ma explained that it was the smell of Satan who sometimes likes to persecute great saints.
I used to go to meditations every month or so and visit in Durga Ma’s room with other devotees. I have a couple of experiences from those times to relate to you here if you have not heard them before. I’m just feeling blessed to smell unusual aromas from time to time that I associate with being aware of one of my senses that can give spiritual insights. I’ve been giving time and awareness to exploration of our inner life. It is helpful to have someone else to chat with over such experiences.
