Compassion: Do We Have It?

As we become more spiritual in our approach to life, we also have the means and discrimination to leave those behind who exhibit nothing of it. Do we support people who suppress others: People who are aggressive towards others and do not allow others to make their own free choices? This shows a lack of compassion. Without compassion for others, it is near impossible to make spiritual progress. Do we help others when we have the means to do so? it is impossible to expand consciousness when we are not concerned about the welfare of our fellow beings! Pray for others as I pray for all the active members of this site and the suffering beings around the world. It develops compassion to be concerned and to pray for the happiness and well being of others.

When we experience compassion from those around us, when we are suffering, we are inspired to give it back to others. Then we we begin to see the subtleties of spirit manifesting more often. We begin to look beyond the attitude of; “ What’s in it for me” and start thinking about the needs of others. This is a way to help expands our own consciousness as well, which is a path towards enlightenment.

It has been awhile since I’ve felt such an experience of the results of compassion as I did today. I was walking in the streets of Bogota this morning and suddenly saw a young woman having difficulty walking and finding her way on the streets here. She apparently looked lost. Since she was carrying a long cane searching around the ground, I went up to her and gently touched her arm to guide her back on the sidewalk. What ensued was an hour walk to attempt to find her living area because she was blind and lost. After reaching her place at wishing her well, I had this tremendous feeling of compassion which seemed to open a spiritual door for me, and I recognized though this was a small step for me, it was an opening for me.

Excellent point Lucca. I seem to get help in the 12th hour quite often. Next thing to determine; is this to learn patience? Or just that my timing isn’t…. God’s timing?
