#47
Those who are not mentally and emotionally strong enough to control themselves, should run from the scene of trouble. Those who are sure to be subdued by others nagging should take temporary flight, and thereby prevent their opponents from having the satisfaction of crushing them with unkindness. One should take such flights as often as necessary; indeed, he cannot take them frequently enough if anyone very dear, to him constantly loosens shafts of unkindness upon him.

I find that as meditation becomes more effective and regular we can also feel the undercurrents around us and know when it is better just to remain silent and not contribute to the drama that others make of life when it does not work towards a productive outcome.
Lesson #47
People in ugly moods should be left alone and given an opportunity to seclude themselves when they are thus spiritually and mentally sick. This "quarantine" will prevent them from spreading an epidemic of inharmony.~ Paramahansa Yogananda
Many times i have left people when I found their moods very dark. It is really the best thing to do because you may be drawn into their darkness and react in ways that you never intended.
When it is impossible to do so it may be better to say nothing to unkind moods of those around us. People’s challenging moods can affect our well being as well but when we are quite confident we are ok, it is better to just ‘lay low’ and let others ride out their own roller coaster moods, especially if we are aware that anything we say can be used against us. Kinda like ‘I have nothing to say, because anything I say may be words that will be used against me. There may be events in our life taking place that it is better that we insulate ourselves from such turmoil going on in the minds and moods of those around us.
