The Bhagavad Gita, which is surely the basic text on the practice of detachment, is wonderfully explicit on this point. Krishna tells Arjuna that acting with detachment means doing the right thing for its own sake, because it needs to be done, without worrying about success or failure. (T.S. Eliot paraphrased Krishna's advice when he wrote, "For us, there is only the trying. The rest is not our business.")

At the same time, Krishna repeatedly reminds Arjuna not to cop out of doing his best in the role his destiny demands of him. In a sense, the Bhagavad Gita is one long teaching on how to act with maximum grace while under maximum pressure. The Gita actually addresses many of the questions that we have about detachment—pointing out, for instance, that we are really supposed to give up not our families or our capacity for enjoyment but our tendency to identify with our bodies and personalities instead of with pure, deathless Awareness.

What really amazes me about having so many sources of spiritual knowledge is that different approaches have different applications to life’s trials. And... the Bhagavad Gita is definitely the most explicit in speaking about detachment all the way through.

that's lovely insight. i recently shared something similar under the hansavedas fellowship thread which is currently hidden from the public eye. i think this was an accident when you had elfunrocker clean the forum up and move things around. yesterday i stood outside and observed a setting sun. breathing in and reciting the lord rama's mantra. afterwards i was left with a feeling of both detachment and engrossment. detachment from idea's of the self as the mind fathoms and engrossed in feelings of gentle, beautiful peace. because we regularly identify with the thoughts that race through our mind it was a nice reprieve from the self and a true experience of Self.

Am interested in your thread Eric and how do you propose unhiding the thread and move things back in place?

Here is the link Steve, http://spiritualportal.net/index.php/board,169.0.html
you can use it to backtrack the branches that lead back to the Spiritual Portal. For example if you look atop the heading of this forum and below the pictures you see
"Spiritual Portal > Forum > The Hall of Mirrors provided by; Masters of Love and Light > Gurus Saints Masters from Krishna up to Amma > Krishna > " and so on.

I believe it has something to do with permissions which as an administrator you have to go into and allow all to see if you're interested in making the Hansavedas Fellowship branch public.

Thank you! Good luck young Jedi  Grin
