Interesting article, is based on one of the numerous statistical elaborations of the NHANES database on nurses, which a is pretty robust since it is big data and the subjects were medical personnel, who knew how to answer scientific questionnaires.
A single study does not uncover the truth, necessarily, but the evidence against red and processed meat is mounting. Also, it is very interesting the comment by Valter Longo, one of the eminent figures in longevity, he says that since studies on populations outside America do not provide such significant excess risk, maybe it's the hormones that are still allowed in America but not in other countries.
Other analyses suggest that meat is not harmful until a very moderate daily threshold.

“The reduced mortality when red meat is replaced with fish is consistent with this possibility since they contain generally similar levels of proteins,” he said, suggesting that the content of red meat in the United States might be a factor driving the mortality link.

Personally, I would not focus on the slightly adverse effects on health, rather on the significant detrimental effects on spiritual advancement. I believe the detriment is stronger the more a person is advanced, and is stronger for some people than others.
