that swallowed up many a sturdy tree of my fresh powers.

My garden was green with life. Now, gray ghosts of half-dead vitalities glide amid dark doubts,
to frighten my timid footsteps marching toward Thee.

Come Thou to my aid, Divine Friend, and usher me ever forward with Thee. "
