Intereststs; Meditation/Spiritual Life

Steve, seeing as you practice meditation regularly- do you believe meditation can help with "novel-seeking behavior" and "addictive personality disorder" ?

I think I ought to commit to a more disciplined routine.

Yea because meditation offers a constructive alternative. Paramahansa Yogananda talked about ‘ever new joy’ the more we have had experiences in meditation the less chance of heading back to addiction or novel - seeking. In fact meditation can give novel experience, when and if we get deeper in the practice and use the right techniques to settle us down.

I am so grateful for the Kriya techniques I learned from the SRF lessons to give me deeper experiences in meditation and the IAM technique which keeps my mind more focused and helps lose my body in preparation for meditation.

It is rather ironical that people to day use modern conveniences, computers, IPhones, digital sound equipment and the internet but still use the bullock cart ways of contacting spirit and meditation. Wouldn’t spirit also progress beyond using archaic techniques of approaching the secrets that remain hidden or appear to take so long to manifest? The truth is, as we progress technologically we must also peogress spiritually and the jet age methods of traveling around the world can also be sped up
in our approach to spiritual life as well. We live in a higher age then the Iron Age today and we are expected to adapt to it in all ways, not just our pleasures and conveniences.

I’m not belittling a simple way of life. There is something to be said about that as well. But we will never make it to the stars without embracing higher laws of physics and we deny ourselves attaining higher states of consciousness in the Bronze Age which we inhabit, if we choose not to avail ourselves to methods and practices and techniques we may have used ourselves in higher ages and past lives. So why not in this life we now find ourselves blessed by so many progressive approaches to physical and spiritual development?

Paramahansa Yogananda has already given higher Kriya techniques that he explains will be used in the higher ages then we live in today. They are given in the Self Realization Fellowship lessons. But certain fundamental spiritual laws and principles must be applied to daily life to facilitate the use of such teachings without having weak results or awakening to fast. Thus the importance of a the Masters and attempting to follow their footsteps and examples.

I have also witnessed psychosomatic manifestations in many people today that are a result of not properly following their souls longing for spiritual advancement and awakening. We must recognize that our past lives often have many different expressions, some more spiritual and others satisfying the senses and the ego. People are not always learning from deprivation but are also subject to the challenges of having much more then others and evaluated on just how they use such advantages and abuse them in their souls progress.

Having been on this path almost a whole life time I’ve witnessed in others and myself various ups and downs in spiritual attainment and have seen those around me, and myself disciplined or given council not to take part, for a time, in such progressive methods of spiritual evolution. There is an excellent book on this and that I’ve read several times. It is called ‘Initiation’ by Elizabeth Haich. The book is available on line. Get it used quit inexpensive. It is the autobiographical account of Elizabeth Haich’s life through many incarnations as the result of higher spiritual powers and practices in a higher age in the pyramids and the wisdom of a golden age Egypt. It is one of my favorite books of all time and I’ve read it many times over my life.
