The om technique has the same distinction that 'jyoti' mudra has in practice: are we hearing it or really seeing it? Sometime you may just put your om board in place and notice that inner ear sound is quite loud and then you may find your mind working and the volume decreases. This to me is part of the om (not the mind working and creating mischief.). The om has so many sounds, that you may hear it, and write it off as a distraction. Can you believe it? At one time I heard the music of the spheres and kept thinking to myself: i'm trying to meditate. I also know a friend who told me one time she saw the spiritual eye but did not know what it was until years later she read the SRF lessons.
