Brother Dharmananda did similar in 1987 at Hidden Valley...
having residents toil to cut and burn-off the ridges along the cliffs of the valley...
it saved the valley within a decade or so...

It seems that some of the monastics are quite psychic. I heard from a couple of sources that Bhaktananda had mentioned: If we (the United States) ever were at war and were attacked and loosing, the aliens would help us. I did not personally hear this but considering his outspokeness I would believe he said it. The United States has always been a war like nation.
The source that told me this said that it was said at a sermon and some devotees complained about his comments to mother center. Then in another sermon he mentioned it again. Turiyananda was a rebel of sorts but Bhaktananda was more of a maverick. I will tell you this:
He (Bhaktinanda) told me personally that Yogananda had told him he (Yogananda) was Shakespere in a previous incarnation.
