In the Autobiography Yogananda explains that Babaji is working out the spiritual evolution of mankind. Imagine a yogi in a cave in the himalayas doing such a thing while here in the west most people think you are wasting your time by sitting in lotus position meditating. The idea really challenges western thought. Yet really... has all our 'doing' led to a peaceful world? Has all our doing helped us be at peace with other nations? Has all our doing given us satisfactory relationships with those around us? It is only in recent times that we are even understanding the concept of being as opposed to doing. It takes sometime though for most of us to unwind. To just let our spirits express instead of our thoughts and views, our aspirations and duties.... to put aside these things and discover the true meaning of life.

It often helps to put ourselves in the presence of such great souls who are only a thought away. We are so caught up in this world wth the concerns and worries of ourselves and others that we need the help of such a presence and the help of others who keep us on track. It is best not to get to involved with the concerns of the world unless that is our occupation. Even then we need time away from such activities  because it can take us away from what is most important. Even on a spiritual forum we can lose track of our true purpose in life.
