LA Times
Newsom to Trump: 'Respect the pleas of 40 million Americans'

President-elect Donald Trump has not responded to Gov. Gavin Newsom's invitation to tour California's fire damage, Newsom said Saturday afternoon.

Newsom sent a letter on Friday inviting the incoming president to California to meet with fire victims, survey the devastation in Los Angeles County and join him in thanking first responders. The invitation, which the governor’s office said was emailed to Trump’s team, marked a slight change in tone in the political battle between Newsom and Trump, with Newsom imploring Trump not to politicize the tragedy.

Newsom delivered an acid-laced reply when asked Saturday whether he expected Trump to respond to the invitation.

"He's an incoming American president," Newsom told a reporter Saturday as he stood on a Los Angeles airport tarmac in front of a hulking CalGuard Black Hawk helicopter. "I would expect any leader of the free world, the most powerful person in the United States of America, to respect the pleas of 40 million Americans that happen to live in the state of California, hundreds of thousands of people that are still evacuated and a recovery effort that includes, right now, cadaver dogs to look for human remains, to be here for the American people at a time of emergency and a time of recovery."

Trump's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

BREAKING: California Governor Gavin Newsom sounds the alarm about Donald Trump withholding federal disaster aid to the fire-embattled state once he takes power.

This is chilling…

“He’s done it in Utah. He’s done it in Michigan, did it in Puerto Rico. He did it to California back before I was even governor, in 2018, until he found out folks in Orange County voted for him and he decided to give them money,” Newsom told NBC News.

“So he’s been at this for years and years and years. It transcends the states, including, by the way, Georgia, he threatened similarly,” Newsom continued. “So that’s his style. And we take it seriously to the extent that in the past it’s taken a little bit more time [to get federal aid].”

“I’ve been pretty expressive about that in the context of someone threatening our first responders in terms of supporting the immediacy of their needs,” he added.

The governor also pushed back on some of the lies that Trump has been spreading about California as the wildfires rage.

“I don’t know what he’s referring to when he talks about the Delta smelt in reservoirs. The reservoirs are completely full, the state reservoirs here in Southern California,” Newsom said.

Tragedies like this are why Donald Trump never should have been elected. At a time when all Americans should be coming together to help California, he’s exploiting the tragedy for cheap political points.

Steve, the other side of this tragedy is that it was a total disaster under the governance of Mr. Newsome, a very pro-woke guy who was more interested into the pronouns to apply to transgenders, to defund the police, to knee to black lives matters,  than to build up an effective strategy against fires that have always plagued the LA area.
It's incredible that in such a rich city, replete with very wealthy celebrities, where state taxes are among the highest in the USA, the elementary phenomenon of fire could cause such devastation. Very bad governance, even considering to extreme conditions where the fires developed.

I don't know about Mr. Trump's attitude, but Newsome and other governors have been pretty hostile to him since he was elected, this is maybe his likewise hostile response. Not the spiritual response we would like to except, sure.

I suppose with your line of logic we should also not help Florida when they get horrible hurricanes, since they never prepared for the worst.

I’m happy to know some people are in tune to social values because it sure isn’t Donald Trump

Woke; Define

Define
woke
[wōk]
verb

Alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination.

People like to live with Nature around them and not in concrete jungles. Well some people. It creates fire risks but that is a risk people are prepared to take to be surrounded by natural beauty. We have huge fires here in Australia but people still want to live in natural settings.

Also people who are karmically confused re: gender deserve respect and support from the community in the 21st century. My gay son reminded me last night that not so long ago people were jailed for being gay. C'mon do we want to go back to the dark ages? Black lives do matter. How on earth can they not? If being woke means trying to take an understanding of the issues that affect minority groups then we should all get on board.

I don't really understand confusion about gender identity but I do feel this would be a huge problem to somebody facing it. I dressed as a female at a high school fancy dress party and found it strangely liberating. Sri Rama Krishna also spent some time in his initial sadhana dressing as a woman and spending all his time with females. They accepted him as their own, he would even escort one of them to her husband's bed for marital relations. He said cross-dressing helped him see all women as Divine Mother and advised some of his male devotees that it helps overcome lust for the other sex.

Steve, the definition of Woke you provided is the original old one, whereas presently is more used as a pejorative term to describe the nonsensical ideas, predicated by some parts of the population.

Topline “Woke” is now best known as a negative political buzzword used to describe anything deemed too liberal or progressive—like brands that support Pride Month, The Little Mermaid live-action film and teaching about race in schools—but the word has a long history, originally meaning to be aware of racially motivated threats.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/06/06/what-does-woke-even-mean-how-a-decades-old-racial-justice-term-became-co-opted-by-politics/

Unfortunately, I know the worst part of wokism, a narrative which Yogananda with his common sense and pragmatism would have cautioned everyone of us against.

Weboflife, nice to know you are from OZ, I've been there and that's an exceptional country. I just loved the nature.

I too live around nature and hate concrete jungles, but I'm doing my absolute best to avoid that my house is burnt. Contrary to my own little example though, Mr. Newsome was not doing his best (for example, the underbrush was not maintained and as you know overgrown underbrush is very dangerous. But at the end, who elected Mr. Newsome and the mayor of LA? the Californians and the Losangelinos themselves. So, I hate to say that, but they are reaping their massa karma. Very unfortunately.

Who says that gay people must be persecuted? But I would just hate that in the school where my son went, they advertised transgenderism in a positive way. That is called indoctrination and is a practice very common in dictatorships. Indoctrination. Starting to teach ideologies to very young people. Especially so wrong ideologies. Young souls should not be influenced and hurried to act on a whim. Young souls must evolve until they become adult souls, then they can decide by themselves.

Black lives matter: who says they don't? But that movement has become a flagship for Marxism, for violence, for crazy concepts like 'defund the police'.

By the way, the great Yogananda insisted in his writings that the police should receive more funds!

I don’t think you should have to say it mccoy just don’t say it. We could easily look at the ‘red’ states and say similar things because of hurricanes and tornadoes. And what about where most of the mass murders take place at schools and public events. Yes right in the ‘good old MAGA states where kids are taught to be manly and tough. I think we should remember what Paramahansa Yogananda said when he asked God why he put so much poverty in a God loving country like India ? What was God’s answer? His answer was that he tests those the most that love him the most. Let us not forget that all the SRF temples are not in the red states and MAGA states but most of them are in the liberal states and especially California where Master chose to have most his temples and his headquarters. I know for a fact because I’ve worked in most of the states…. The most meditators are right in California… especially Los Angeles… the “City of the Angels” and if we include all of Amma’s groups, the Buddhist temples the Hari Krishna temples etc. the best place to be in the United Clones of Americops is progressive California!

I’ve never experienced any advertisement of transgenderism in a positive way in schools. In fact i experienced a male chauvinist attitude towards me when I did my Hatha yoga in gym class. But i persisted because I knew there was something right about what I was practicing. When I was indoctrinated into basketball and football I was practicing Hatha yoga when no one else did. The gym teacher was indoctrinating the guys in aggressive sports while I code to go against the grain.

Your idea that Black Lives Matter is a flagship for Marxism is good to hear. It is much better then having 50% of the wealth of a nation amassed in 1 percent of the population; the summary of capitalism at its very worst. You have to ask yourself why there is so much violence in the U.S.A. the heart of capitalism and so little violence in the Scandinavian countries where social programs are strongest? And yes we also have the largest prison population. The experiment in capitalism just isn’t what is made up to be. It means a financial system for the few and poverty for the many.

My father was in the police force, a military policeman, a federal policeman and then moved on to senior position in jails. I don't advocate stripping money from the police, and similar to something Yogananda said, my father came home from working in the prison one day when I was a teenager and told me that nothing worthwhile is achieved locking a man in a jail.

We have just gone through a sexual revolution that started last century and continues with its after-effects felt globally.  I would imagine that this is a time ripe for those with gender identity issues to incarnate and my own, albeit unenlightened, view is that this is why we are seeing a big increase in the prevalence of this issue, not through indoctrination. I also think the powerful recreational drugs available these days are contributing to the confusion.

Burning off undergrowth is a very delicate operation and can lead to disaster without very special care. The native Australians would burn off large sections of forest periodically but they lived much more in harmony with nature, and built a body of knowledge over many thousands of years.. To the Indigenous Australian, all nature is the Mother, very similar to Hindu belief.

What part of the world are you from, Mccoy, I think I read Italy but I could be wrong? And where did you travel over here?

@ Steve: of course it is always very hard to fight natural extremes. The fire in CA. is such a case. But, to tell you the truth, in the past years I've always wondered why they cannot figure out the fire problem in the very rich neighborhoods the fires take place. Also, Newsome and the Mayor of LA have been accused of incompetence. It is a serious issue. Maybe there will be investigations.
I agree that the best to be in the USA WAS in California, but after the excesses of Newsome many, many people went away. Apparently, it's no more like that.

transgenderism: as we discussed also by phone, the issue has been taken to the extremes, so much so that parents are worried, very worried. This is surely one of the main reasons the vote shifted so much.

Marxism: Black Live Matters incorporates the worst of marxism. Marxism sounds good on the exterior, but its core is atheistic materialism. Also, whenever governments have tried to implement it, the worst tyrannyes have manifested: Soviet Union, North Korea, China, Myanmanr, Cuba, Venezuela and so on. There is no positive outcome of Marxism. And they are very repressive.

To warp it up: a girl wrote in the social media: 'Every lives matter'. Everyone was jumping on her. It is not every lives, just black lives. All other races are demoted to subhuman. This movement has shown to be racism in reverse.

@WEBOFLIFE:

Yes I'm from Italy and I was in OZ in 1992, backpacking, I've seen the most incredible natural sceneries, the Blue Mountains, the coral reef in Queenstown, the Kakadu Park in Darwin, the rocks in Alice Springs. I still remember the places today. Where are you living in OZ by the way?

Please note that I try to filter my political views with common sense and pragmatism, as taught by the great Yogananda.

In the context of God's multifaceted universe, I also have my personal opinions, as anyone should. God did not want a world of clones.

What I think is despicable is the divisiveness that current policy encourages. The opposition should raise sensible objections to the majority's actions, and the majority should heed them. Sometimes, the opposition should support the majority. But currently, it's a mayhem of discordance and hatred. Sometimes, I think it's all made up. There is a caste, and they pretend to quarrel, often to the benefit of the populace. The caste supports tribalism maybe because it's the kind of society they thrive in.

It is a game, a game that ideally, in a spiritual world would follow different rules. In this world in the Dwapara age unfortunately it's not like that.

Hey Mccoy, you've seen some beautiful parts of this country, some places I haven't been to, but I was married young and struggled for many years just to keep food on the table so didn't have the opportunity of travel. A fellow devotee who I met last year is an author and was going to Kakadu for 3 months, living in a caravan and writing her next novel which will be set in the area.

Political views are just as multivarious among Yogananda's devotees as they are in the wider world. Pragmatic to one will seem extreme to the next. But that is more to do with our individual filters. I'm naturally left leaning but my grandmother who was very right wing helped me to understand both sides. I was very close to her and her contacts high up in previous conservative governments here helped me out of one or two very tricky situations not of my own making (in this life at least). One involved identity theft where the person who did it used my name to set up a business and ripped the government of for a lot of money. Since then I try to see things much more from a level playing field as wonderful politicians are found on both sides of the political divide, as well as some average ones and then the  ones left floundering. Just like life in general strangely enough.

Enough of my musings, it is a delight to have you two guys to touch base with. Whereabouts in Italy are you from Mccoy? Do you follow the tennis? Sinner from Italy is a wonderful player and could well win our Australian Open for the second year in a row.

I'm from central Italy, on the Adriatic coast,  lovely place on the sea but with high mountains a relatively little distance away.

To tell the truth, I don't follow tennis much, it bores me after 2 seconds. I don't follow soccer either, it bores me after 1 second!

Sinner is always on the news, so much so that I cannot stand him any longer! As soon as I see his face, I change channel or turn the TV off entirely.

I am like that, I hate popular sports where money reigns supreme, but I also do not follow sports much, I tend to get bored easily.

We're all different, Master brings us in from all the vast spectrums of life and soul uniqueness. Sinner won which you will already know and I'm sure your media is having a field day with it which is normal. However you may view him in light of all the money involved, he is an incredible player and has only improved since last year which is extraordinary.

I like high achievers in all the fields, it adds inspiration to my own challenges. I have always been very sporty; health and fitness are now a big part of my life once again as I need to counter the effects of an aging and decaying body! We're not the mind, we're not the body but they still need plenty of attention. It would be nice to just slip off into samadhi and not have to deal with these things any longer but that's just not happening for me at the moment.

Thanks for sharing web! I work on the body by practicing the energization exercises 2x a day, the Maha mudras 2x a day and the IAm techniques many days as well as long walks in this huge city I’m in; Bogota.
