Is it good to have an active mind? Our culture (western culture) always tells us it is. I am not sure it always is though. We can be so wound up in out heads that it is difficult to relax. Our work and the days events can often make us this way. The difficulty though is to be able to unwind and to quiet the mind so that the superconscious state of relaxation can be achieved and we can tune into peace, visions and an expanded awareness that extends beyond the turmoil of an active mind. We also have to be able to push the mute button at will.

Our mind is usually active but enslaved by the activity itself...

Ramana said westerners minds are overactive. Rajas was the term used...That was back in the early 20th century. Now it's probably true everywhere in the world, and possibly to a greater degree.

Reminds me of an episode of the Andy Griffith show. This guy passes through and has car trouble. He is very much in a hurry to get where he is going but finds that Mayberry shuts down on Sundays. The whole town's phone system is tied up due to two old ladies who use it all day.

Episode called "Man in a hurry"
