Title: The Crow
Post by: guest88 on Aug 24, 2016 09:14 pm
today a rather raggedy looking crow walked right up to me, he was fearless. his yellow eyes and boldness stirred a little anxiety in me...  he seemed completely unfazed by my size. i remember once a coworker running over a baby crow in a parking lot... i remember seeing the mother crow mourn for her loss and i remember a flock of crows emerging from the nearby tree afterwards. i feel like they were angry. the flock chased us back into the building, flapping their wings looking larger then life right up to our face and then they'd pull back to the tree- one by one they did this until we were away from the scene where the baby crow died. very peculiar but sometimes looking at their yellow eyes i feel like the crows may remember this event or know something more about me. i think they may even see a weakness inside me.

Keeper of the Sacred Law

Crows are the keepers of the Sacred Law
and to have a Crow totem is very powerful.

Personal Integrity are your watchwords and your guide in Life.
If you have a Crow totem, your prime path
is to be mindful of your opinions and actions.
You must be willing to walk your talk,
to speak your truth and to know your life's mission.

Crow is a omen of Change.
Crow lives in the void and has no sense of time,
therefore, it sees past, present and future simultaneously.
Crow merges both light and dark, both inner and outer.
It is the totem of the Great Spirit and must be respected as such.

They are symbols of creation and spiritual strength.
Look for opportunities to create and manifest the magic of life.
Crows are messengers calling to us
about the creation and magic that is alive in the world today
and available to us.

hi steve. the crow is an extremely intelligent bird with strong family ties.

always nice to listen to the birds chatter. =)

Decided to put this here and read up on the crow above. Yea. Sometimes it seems like they really have a message they are compelled to tell us ... especially when they insist on being nearby and quite loud.

Today while meditating I heard a crow talking to another crow at a distance. One crow was near me up in a tree and he was talking to a crow out there at a distance  The crow that was near me started flying away and I heard his voice slightly lower and lower as it approached the other crow. Very interesting communication! 'Hey I'm out here. Do u hear me?'

I was in the Manistee Forest today and the sound of the wind through the high trees and the crows communicating was awesome.

on the way home today i noticed three crows fighting off a hawk. it seems our neighborhood is chock-full of crow nest. the hawk being of larger stature was only slightly placed off its course by the three crows, who in a coordinated effort would peck at him one by one. the synchronization was mesmerizing. the hawk was fearless, the crows in the end successfully warded away the hawk and not shortly after i heard the calling out of a baby crow from its nest.

i think  of the community aspect of the crow, the intelligence, and the ability to face great challenges together.

so they live another day.

there is one crow every day outside of work now who appears to be entranced with his reflection. sometimes he seems to know if it's him. othertimes he see's us moving behind the other side of the glass and he puffs his chest out. but most of the time he is puffing his chest out to ward off the reflection, not quite realizing it's he himself he is charging.

To me the crow is the most complex of all spirit messengers. Being the ‘trickster’ it is not always so easy to asses what its message is… although they are often precipitously placed. I was in a store today and the woman at customer service ‘appeared’ to have made a mistake when giving me back change…. A five dollar bill for one of the dollar bills. When I started driving away I noticed I had a 5 dollar bill extra in my wallet which was to have been a one dollar. I drove back and saw a large crow above the door squawking as if to laugh at me. I went in the store and explained to the clerk she gave me too much money. She appeared flustered and her manager was there beside us and said “thanks for being honest, but unless it’s more then $20.00 I am not concerned.” I left my phone number and this site on a piece of paper for the clerk. When I went back out the store there were a couple crows on the roof outside the door. One of them lurching at me as if to laugh if it could. I do not yet know the significance of the encounter, but I feel it was a messenger foretelling something. I have usually gained some kind of understanding or message from the potent of the crows appearance when it makes itself clearly known.

Crow was trying to tell you, you should've given the 5 to the guy on the corner with the sign, you blew it!

Not sure about your active imagination SI, perhaps you missed your calling writing harlequin novels. We do not have that presence in this town… not that it is bad… we just don’t have it. A rather romantic idea for a paperback nevertheless.

Cool!!

I would have kept the $5.  ;D

PS

Maybe the crows are delighted by your good nature! Perhaps an endearing laugh!!

What's a harlequin novel?

Best not to obsess and let your face grow long. Besides some people wear it well. I’ve been there, done that and something or someone will be there to shake me out of it again when/if I get there again.

Whatever you got friend; post it or toast it…we’ll be sure to enjoy ☺️ it splendidly.  I think those damn crows were laughing 😝 at me anyhow. The mind does weird things to get reality working according to our desires. And sometimes nature herself laughs at us for our schemes and plans.

And sometimes it's just a crow.

No SI I believe there are signs that point to the inner workings of our soul much better than we often are conscience of ourselves. And I really have seen God had a laugh with my foolishness. Sometimes it’s better to know than to walk around like a sleep walker comfortably asleep to the reality of the egos folly.

Sometimes is, sometimes isn't! You're both right  ;D It's really the individual who decides where to take their respective unfolding~ AND THEN WE DIE.

:D Yes, God is laughing with us most certainly!!!

Every breath and glimpse could be a sign. You could spend so much time in that instant trying to figure out what the sign means then another comes a second later, you would never get caught up.

Yes Si when I drove a truck for a living if I missed one of those ‘signs’ a cop 👮‍♀️ could stop me and say ‘you didn’t follow the signs.’ So the signs are important. But there were times I also was just ‘cruising’!

Not staying on topic again, my signs are much more quick rapid fire than a few signs on a freeway.

Joni Mitchell’s take on the crow brings a light tog her own to the dark creature….

“And diving, diving, diving, diving
Diving down to pick up on every shining thing
Just like that black crow flying
In a blue sky”

https://youtu.be/8WNskIdJVuc

There's a crow flying
Black and ragged
Tree to tree
He's black as the highway that's leading me
Now he's diving down
To pick up on something shiny
I feel like that black crow
Flying
In a blue sky

I took a ferry to the highway
Then I drove to a pontoon plane
I took a plane to a taxi
And a taxi to a train
I've been traveling so long
How am I ever going to know my home
When I see it again
I'm like a black crow flying
In a blue, blue sky

In search of love and music
My whole life has been
Illumination
Corruption
And diving, diving, diving, diving
Diving down to pick up on every shining thing
Just like that black crow flying
In a blue sky

I looked at the morning
After being up all night
I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light
I looked out the window
And I, I saw that ragged soul take flight
I saw a back crow flying
In a blue sky

Ooh, I'm like a black crow flying
In a blue sky

Crows can easily become life long friends.

They're very smart, you could try talking to one. They're also very protective/family oriented.

Today I witnessed something very cool, a rather large hawk was scoping out a particular area above head and suddenly I heard the crow making a unique call. He was just a bit shorter than the hawk and was attempting to push him away. I can only assume there must have been a nest nearby.

What was cool about this was, the crow was continually making a unique noise to ward off this predator bird when suddenly another crow came out of no where and joined in on making intimidating calls. Then, as if to respond to the call for help- two more crows made a caw and joined in to assist the others in shooing away this hungry hawk.

In total 4-5 full-sized crows emerged out of no-where to defend their territory and protect their family.

I was quite impressed.

I like that the pet crow has a ‘love/hate relationship with the cat and dog.’

I suppose I was as ‘crafty as a crow’ Im getting some of my musical equipment back that some so called friends had in their house. When I was putting the equipment in the trailer and car a large crow looked at me from high up in an empty tree and squawked away in the unseasonably warm winter sky.

—————————————————________________________________________________

"Crafty as a crow" means clever, cunning, and skillful at finding solutions or getting what they want, often using intelligence and subtle methods, reflecting the real-life intelligence of crows known for tool use (like making hooks from twigs), problem-solving (dropping nuts in traffic), and complex social behaviors like holding grudges and recognizing faces. It highlights their sharp intellect, adaptability, and sometimes deceptive, trickster-like qualities seen in folklore.
Key aspects of crow craftiness:
Tool Use: Crows create and use tools, like shaping twigs to fish for insects, a behavior once thought unique to humans.
Problem Solving: They drop nuts on roads for cars to crack, waiting for crosswalk lights to ensure safety, showing planning.
Deception & Strategy: They distract other animals to steal food or follow predators to scavenge, demonstrating complex tactics.
Memory & Grudges: Crows remember faces, especially mean ones, and pass this knowledge to others, holding grudges for generations.
In folklore & symbolism:
Trickster Figures: Crows often appear as mischievous tricksters in myths, similar to coyotes in Native American stories.
Wisdom & Omens: They are linked to wisdom (like Odin's ravens) but also seen as messengers of death or fate in other traditions.
Essentially, calling someone "crafty as a crow" praises their sharp, resourceful intelligence, especially when they outsmart situations or others.

‘Crafty as a crow? That should definitely be a saying! Crows will tail other birds to find their nests, work together to distract another animal so they can steal its food, and even make and use tools.’
