Hello All.
I'm having a hard time understanding the word Faith.

I was having a conversation the other day in which someone tried explaining to me what Faith was. I don't think I understand it. As I see it now, Faith is like a firm belief. The person told me it was a link or a connection.

I'm not sure if we will all have the same understanding of this word but I noticed even in the Bowl of Saki the word Faith is dropped on numerous pages.

What Is Faith ?

Faith is a sure  intuition and an inner, complete certainty which no amount of reasoning could either justify or demolish~Kriyananda (The Essence of the Bhagadvad Gita)

Hebrews 11 ►

King James Bible: Purple Letter Edition

1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2

Shraddha: Faith or divine devotion. Shraddha is the natural inclination within every being that is attracted to its Source, Spirit. This inherence of attraction, as will be seen in the succeeding verses, is dull and inert in the tamasic individual; active but with self-interest in the rajasic person; and fully  expressive as devotion and faith in the preserving sattvic yogi. He who is inbued with shraddha is consistent in the highest form of spiritual endeavor because he is motivated by intense spiritual longing that has basis in intuitive conviction of faith. ~ Paramahansa Yogananda (God Talks to Arjuna; The Bhagavad Gita)

While fear depletes power, Faith gives wings for the Soul’s elevation.

Today I spoke with my Aunt. She's always been a good friend to talk to concerning things spiritual in nature. She comforted me of my dogs passing and helped me understand Faith helps alleviate fear of death.

Death can be a scary thing. She asked how many times I've been to a viewing, a funeral or even touched a dead person. My aunt was a medic in the army and worked full time in the emergency room. Getting familiar with Death certainly helps one understand what it means when it's happening. And having Faith helps with the aftermath of death.

She spoke to me of nannys passing(my grandma). Nanny said, "<Insert Aunts Name Here> I'm more ready for this then you are." That was 2 days before she passed. Even after being more familiar with death than I- she explained how difficult it was for her to experience what she did. But then she mentioned all the good things that happened. She helped me understand where Guilt comes from when loved ones pass. She helped me udnerstand Why... Just a little.

Where am I getting at ? It was in our discussion that faith was brought up. I never made the connection but I think this is helping me form my understanding of Faith... I see how Beautiful it is to have and practice this... I wonder if Faith can break the notion that we are products of our immediate environment. What I mean is... Faith not only helps ease the fear in Death... It helps Build Strength in Character... So we can perhaps Handle Ourselves... Remain somewhat Sane in a Chaotic and Poor Environment.

Faith in sanskrit is called "viswas", meaning to "breathe easy". (from "Living Fearlessly" by Yogananda)

Faith like other spiritual qualities is cultivated. I have had incredible more faith since I have seen miraculous things happen in my life. This I believe was a result of years of meditation and spiritual practice. To think things just happen is all good and well but we must recognize that of the 25% help the guru gives us we must invest 25% spiritual work and God's grace is 50%.

Someday when you really need something God will give it to you. It is probably not even a thing. Yet when it is given you will know without a doubt in your mind that God himself gave it. When that happens your world is turned around because you know that your faith was nothing less than the truth!

I’m going to venture into an area of faith that has directly to do with spiritual practice. I believe each person follows their specific path because faith has drawn them to our individual path.

There are many different ways to follow. Here I will give some specifics that I personally follow; for instance the Om technique, that is listening to the cosmic motor behind creation. Also believing there is actually a ‘third eye’ and looking up towards it in meditation. Practicing Kriya and believing that we do carry the seeds of our past karma in our astral spine. Taking what Paramahansa Yogananda said literally. That is that we can burn 🔥 out the seeds of karma by practicing a technique called Kriya.

Faith is ultimately the proof of that which is unseen but eventually manifest. And there are many spiritual manifestations that have been proven in my life which has made it very important to continue developing faith by practice of spiritual methods that reveal the outcome of faith.

I believe that since I started to meditate as a teenager I began to ‘hear’ and eventually ‘see’ phenomena that others did not. Although in some incidents I even remember such things happening as a child. Yet it is important to develop faith that there are many sounds and sites that most people don’t see or hear beyond the physical manifestations of this world experienced by the senses.

I see certain books as influential in this supporting faith process. Especially the Autobiography of a Yogi and many other books come to mind like ‘The Testimony of Light’, Initiation by  Elisabeth Haich and the Robert Monroe books as a small sampling. Also the Om technique taught by the Self Realization Fellowship and the chakra light techniques in the IAm technique taught by Amma at Amma.org.

Sayings of Paramahansa Yogananda
Day 01 – October 18th: “I wish I had faith, Master.”

“Faith has to be cultivated, or rather uncovered within us. It is there but has to be brought out. If you watch your life you will see the innumerable ways in which God works through it; your faith will thus be strengthened."
