steve, what caught my attention was the reference to carbon-dating. That's a scientific method which constitutes evidence.

Unfortunately, the dating should be carried out on material related to the building of the artifact of which we desire to know the date of origin.

I'm no archeologist, but what I think I read in the wiki concise explanation is that someone made a mistake but that mistake was supported by the President of Indonesia, for reasons of historical pride. The article was published, but then evidently it raised so much criticism that was retracted.

I've been pretty disappointed as well.
