Lahiri Mahasaya was an Indian yogi who lived from 1828-1895. He was a disciple of Mahavatar Babaji and revived the practice of Kriya Yoga when he learned it from Babaji in 1861. As a householder, he taught Kriya Yoga to many disciples throughout his life, including Yukteswar Giri and Paramahansa Yogananda's parents. The central practice he taught was Kriya Yoga pranayama, which he said could quickly advance spiritual growth. He emphasized the importance of the guru-disciple relationship for learning Kriya properly.
