I would add that, insofar we are not perfectly evolved, the body is the tool by which we can drive soul evolution. The vehicle must be well maintained and kept efficient.

I would agree with you on this. However, I find it difficult to reconcile letting myself getting out of shape physically for the sake of soul evolution. Although I will admit Masters usually let their bodies get out of shape physically and I do not see that as a reason for me to do so. We often seek physical comforts such as sex, caffeine, incense, smudging, listening to music, showers….etc. to give Somatic relief to the physical apparatus. To what extent is this acceptable?  It is difficult to be focused and centered on God when we have so many interests. It seems like a difficult task to assess for me. I really enjoyed energy drinks and salted food but have recently curbed them extremely to the extent I once indulged. What is next that I should give up? Or should I? It is a question that makes me wonder.

Sri Yukteswar said ‘give the dog a bone’ when referring to the body. But being the disciplinarian he was I wonder if he would give the same advice for sexual gratification? Paramahansa Yogananda had a some what different perspective on this, advising balance and moderation. It is an interesting phenomena, this giving up of pleasures for a higher purpose and experience. How do we determine what to let go and what is necessary to give up to find our true potential and purpose?
