Controlling people and relationships

So many people would like to control every element of their lives, even the people in their lives. We are free to go our own way in most democratic societies why attempt to control our environment to the exclusion of the freedom of others? While simultaneously limiting our own options?

What I have found also is that people who are out of control and have issues like envy, jealousy and pride, are often the ones who feel a need to control their environment and the people in their environment the most.
