Steve, there are a few people afflicted by autoimmune response who are made sick by some plant-derived compounds. What is usually done in these predicaments, is the so-called elimination procedure, people fall back initially on a pure carnivorous diet, then they start adding vegetable food a little at a time. they are just a minority though, not everyone as Dr. Gundry would like to make us believe.

Many people fall into the pitfall of the wrong sphere of thought, adopting a carnivorous diet because they say they cannot tolerate plant foods, but they are usually fooling themselves, sometimes their desire for steak. And they are being influenced by internet influencers, who sometimes make big profits supporting this sphere of thought.

Fish is considered healthy by modern nutrition research, although it is not a suggested food for spiritual aspirants.

The suggested foods for meditation and spiritual evolution are those falling into the sattvic, sometimes rajasic categories, mentioned in Sri Yukteswar's 'The holy science' and in the SRF lessons.

Further refinements of this diet can be done to optimize individual requirements.

The most basic rule though is not to overindulge in food, even though rajasic, since this disrupts the ability to meditate and leads to unhealthy conditions.
