Intereststs; Meditation/Spiritual Life

« on: Jan 27, 2024 06:29 pm »

As a child my hero was my Grandfather and when I became adolescent what magnetically appealed to me was the music I was hearing at the time and the persona of the artists that created it. As a teenager growing up the magnetic appeal was coming from the allure of animal sexual attraction. Although I will say there was quite an appeal from personal charisma from people I met at school. At this time though my interest in yoga and meditation started unfolding. Suddenly I felt some of the sorrow associated with unrequited love. At this time I became even more deeply aware of another type of happiness that came from within, in my experiences in meditation. Though they were rather infrequent, the possibilities associated with them seemed more lasting then some of the ephemeral states of happiness associated with human beings in life.

Still the psychic magnet of people who were gifted in such abilities drew an immediate and somewhat unexpected magnetic appeal to me. I was also beginning to understand the magnetism of spiritual masters in my life. Although the direct appeal of personal encounters seemed to have more appeal to me at the time.

Later I recognized that many of my teenage years when I found such magnetic appeal to artists started to dissolve as I recognized that they were very human and often not so kind. As if some how ‘success’  had some strong pitfalls. One of them being that in one way or another material success and fame got to their head in some ways and that the very acclaim they had attained was a hindrance to other developments in their lives . Making comparisons to people I spent time with that had developed incredible humility; I began to recognize the difference between animal magnetism and the the magnetism of true humility and unpretentious spirituality.

Later in life the magnetism I’ve been attracted to more and more is the magnetism emitted through contact with the Masters and have found that even in what I assumed to be lasting friendship, other circumstantial evidence has shown that ego has its subtle manifestation in family identification and job security or delusional identification with ‘social status’, among other factors.
