Proper foods in the right combinations are necessary for the substance of the body; they exert, also a definite influence upon the mind. The sattvic or spiritual quality, the rajasic or active quality, and the tamasic or material quality of the mind are all affected by the food we eat. The activating rajasic quality may dominate or combine with the other two qualities to form different mental tendencies spiritually active, intellectually active, and materially active.

Everything we eat, produces a sensation on the pallet, as well as certain chemical effects on the body and brain. sensations created by the food, determine a specific mentality. Meat 🥩 eating produces gross material reactions that develop the material or animal mental tendencies, whereas eating, raw fruits and vegetables helps to reinforce and develop the spiritual qualities.
