‘It splintered our sense of reality’: how JFK’s assassination spawned 60 years of conspiracy theories.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/26/it-splintered-our-sense-of-reality-how-jfks-assassination-spawned-60-years-of-conspiracy-theories

Theorist Fredric Jameson said the event ( Kennedy’s Assassination) represented the ‘coming of age of the whole media culture’

“On the campus cultural left, it became an item of faith that your government is lying to you,” says Peter Knight, a professor of American studies at the University of Manchester and an expert on Kennedy conspiracy culture. To be paranoid was to be sane. “People were concerned about the military-industrial complex, the overreach of the security state and, of course, the basic sense that, after all those assassinations in the 1960s, there was something really fishy going on.” According to the Pew Research Centre, public trust in the federal government during Kennedy’s presidency was about 75%; by the middle of the 1970s, it was below 40%. Knight says: “My argument is that the assassination of Kennedy comes to function as a kind of misremembered primal scene, that everything is, in retrospect, pinned back on to the assassination as the moment when it all went horribly wrong.”

Alex Jones’s website Infowars alleged on the day of the 9/11 attacks that they were a government-instigated “false flag” operation, just as Jones would claim were many other atrocities, from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing to the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012, in which 26 people, 20 of them children, were killed. That last lie led to some of the victims’ parents successfully suing him for $1.5bn in 2022.

By this time, most left-leaning conspiracists and X-Files fans had got off the bus. Like many 21st-century conspiracists, Jones also embraced homophobia, xenophobia, white supremacism and racism – such as the “Obama wasn’t born in the US” conspiracy theory. Conspiracism had become predominantly a rightwing concern. In the Kennedy era, the left was suspicious of an “invisible government” secretly tipping the scales against them; now, the right denounces the “deep state” for doing the same to them.

Uwe; I believe IT IS MORE LIKE this….

https://youtu.be/y4xcOyEUuNA?si=iS6wyti048q1-ysY

That will be the last we hear of it. But I do believe your film above is much more convincing, having lived through that period in the United Clones of Ameritunes. Was President Kennedy Really Killed by the CIA. That film shows just how much the U.S. was involved in manipulation of other governments and just how much the CIA did not want to be stopped in their dirty deeds; Especially by a young President having a totally different take on what the United States should be doing around the world. You know it makes me think 🤔,maybe we need some young blood in our nation today. No one seems to have new answers to old problems.

Fox News today, on the 60 yr. anniversary of the JFK assassination titling, RFK Jr. doubles down on allegation CIA involved in JFK's assassination: '60-year cover-up'

While ridiculing RFK Jr. and many of his other views (except the one on Covid), they downplay all the evidence that the CIA was the sole architect and perpetrator of the assassination and keep deflecting from the evidence. - WTF?

You have a very good point above.

Trump was recorded pressuring two Michigan GOP canvassers not to certify 2020 election results, report says.

The conspiracy creator that uses past abuses of the American democracy for personal gain and self aggrandizement.

Quote
Robert Bolt's prize-winning play "A Man for All Seasons" takes place in 16th-century England during the reign of King Henry VIII. Chancellor Sir Thomas More, a devout Catholic and the country's highest-ranking lawyer, opposes the king's decision to break with the Roman Catholic Church, which had refused Henry's request to annul his marriage to his first wife, Catherine (who had not borne him a son and heir), so that Henry could marry his mistress, Anne Boleyn.

Early in the play, More discusses the dangerous palace intrigue with his wife, Alice, daughter Margaret and her Protestant suitor, William Roper, a passionate but impressionable young man. When More insists that one must first violate an English law before being arrested, Roper's moral sensibilities are affronted. "So! Now you'd give the Devil benefit of law?" he protests. "Yes," says More. "What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?"

The high-minded Roper insists that he would "cut down every law in England to do that!"

More warns Roper: "Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast – man's laws, not God's – and if you cut them down – and you're just the man to do it – do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?"

Fast forward 500 years. The Democratic Party (and some of the GOP's old guard) have decided that Donald Trump is the devil, and in William Roper-esque fashion, they are willing to cut down every law in the United States to get to him.

It started in 2016 with the baseless accusations that Trump had somehow "colluded" with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election. The FBI lied multiple times to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) court to get federal warrants to spy on Trump and his advisers. The Justice Department launched a multiyear investigation, based upon "evidence" that they already knew was falsified "opposition research" commissioned and paid for by Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign apparatus. Despite more than $30 million in taxpayer dollars spent, the "investigation" produced exactly nothing.

But Trump's enemies have not let up.

Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives twice and acquitted twice.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, tried to prosecute Trump for "falsification of business records," despite expiration of the applicable statute of limitations and zero evidence of anything that would make the alleged conduct a felony.

New York's Democrat Attorney General Letitia James filed an action for civil fraud against Trump, alleging that he undervalued his extensive property in Palm Beach, Florida, when applying for business loans. James wants to confiscate all of Trump's New York properties and cancel his licenses to conduct business.

Arthur Engoron, the judge presiding over the case, is determined to help her do it. Engoron ruled pre-trial that Trump had committed fraud. During the trial, Engoron has deliberately ignored defense testimony from multiple real estate experts supporting the valuation of the property in Trump's financial statements, as well as that of the lenders themselves, who testified that they used their own appraisers, were paid back promptly and were not defrauded.

The latest travesty is the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court to strike Trump's name from the ballot in that state "for his role in the January 6, 2021" riots at the U.S. Capitol. This gravely inappropriate decision not only exceeds the court's power according to legal experts on both the Left and Right, but is an obvious effort to ignore mounting evidence that undermines the Left's narrative that the Jan. 6 protests were an "insurrection" that Trump "instigated," an accusation for which Trump has not been criminally charged, and for which he was acquitted by the U.S. Senate in the second impeachment proceeding.

A bare 4-3 majority of the Colorado Supreme Court has disqualified the candidacy of a man with nearly 70% support from his own party and increasing support from constituencies traditionally outside the realm of the GOP. This is disenfranchisement of Colorado voters and interference with a national election.

Whether one thinks that Trump is the devil or that his enemies are, the best protection against unlawful conduct is integrity in the application of the laws themselves.

Eric you have made vast generalizations here. It is not Trump that makes him the devil. It is his actions that make him possessed by the Devil. The devil is using him as his instrument. Therefore he has become the devil in his actions. He shows absolutely no remorse and justifies all his actions. Until such time he recognizes his guilt he will be carrying out the devils works. The justice department is not cutting away laws. On the contrary Fuhrer Trump has disobeyed laws; specifically, to overturn election results in his favor, incite a riot, and being  an instrumental force behind an insurrection. Knowingly he has pressured others to disregard the election results, and use false electorals to overthrow a government. He also took many legal papers which he had no right to take and was asked to return them which did not happen, so the papers had to be taken from his residence. Now I have not even  touched on all the evil things he has done in the state of New York. Or to many women and other people in his life. I’m not sure how much time you want to go through this. But you may as well know now if you have not already realized it, Fuhrer Trump is an instrument of the devil he is an egomaniac and his character now is demonic. So I will do everything in my small ways to make sure he does not have a chance to do more evil by getting back in the Oval Office. This man is a man I could talk about for days about his cruelty, selfishness, ego, arrogance and evilness. If you care to do so let’s take one issue at a time. Because there are so many I don’t think I could count them all. Since you have attempted to defend him above by degrading the constitution and our legal system or at the very least describing that it has not been applied correctly in the case of the Fuhrer. Then, I would refer you to the Fuhrer’s personal lawyer: Cohen and his Secretary of State, as well as his Attorney General, all specificalists in the law, who differ immensely on your opinion about the law in regard to him. In fact many of the people he chose to represent him find him guilty themselves. The Fuhrer has 90 felonies and multiple other charges and convictions. Do you really think that the integrity of the application of the law is in question on all those counts???

On another issue regarding this man. He is the single cause of starting a cult of personality similar to his heroes; Hitler , XI , JungUn and Putin. And like them he has influenced the downfall, suing and jail sentences to those convicted of carrying out his crimes.

Hi Steve,

I don't see it being fruitful to go through your list of reasons as to why you believe all these things about President Trump. I do disagree with you, but I respect your right to have a difference of opinion. Instead, I would like to steer the conversation towards a topic we may both be interested further engaging in.

When we manage to rise through duality, will the devil and God be One?

And, do you think Putin or President Trump are Gods children deserving Love?

I just shared some Sufi wisdom that makes me think about politicians and businessmen in general, Inayat Khan calls the pursuit of wealth a valid path. He says there are at least four paths, and it doesn't matter which one someone takes. Ultimately, the destination is the same.

http://spiritualportal.net/index.php/topic,1166.msg44398.html#msg44398

So yours may be a path of service, and you're doing what you believe is right. Therefore, I do not take qualm with your desire to be of service to others. And when we disagree, it's beneficial to find the greater meaning behind what's actually going on. We could be butting heads and wasting our vital energy defending our stance, or we can just let it go and allow others to make their own decisions. So I stand by this idea that your path might be the path of service, as you have poetically and reflectively shared here through out the years. Actually, I think you might have dharma and moksha. I think ultimately, we wish to know God. And when we can say we know God, I think all disagreement found in life falls by the way side. It would be quite something to see and know, not from the eyes of our Ego, but from the Almighty One.

Quote
In this way we see that there are really two journeys. There is the journey from the goal to the life in the world, and there is the journey from the life in the world to the goal. And both journeys are natural. As it is natural to go forth from the eternal goal, so it is natural to go from the changing life to the life which is unchangeable.

Which is the most desirable thing in life, to seek for the goal or to dwell in this changing life? The answer is that every person's desire is according to his evolution.

The world is engaged in four different kinds of occupations. To one person some of them may be repellant and undesirable, while to another they seem desirable. Everyone has his own occupation in which he seems to be happy, but that of another seems to him useless, foolish or undesirable. In Sanskrit these occupations are called Kama, Artha, Dharma, and Moksha. The occupation of Kama is love, affection, attachment, or infatuation, to such an extent that nothing else matter in life neither money nor position, nothing. Kama is the thing he wants; it is his one occupation.

Artha is the occupation in which one pursues money; he wishes to be rich, to have property, to make trade prosper. Love does not appeal to him. He calls the lover crazy, foolish, out of his mind. He believes that everybody will like him if he has money, and that it is crazy to pursue love!

Dharma is the occupation of pursuing duty. Such a person says, 'these things are not right. The right thing is to do one's duty'. Perhaps he is interested in his family, in family duty to mother, father, wife, or children, saying, 'This is my virtue'; or in the people, the nation, the poor, or the rich. Whatever he considers his duty he gives his life to. He may be a soldier, a teacher, or a merchant; but he feels justified according to the way he does his duty. The person who is after money thinks he is a fool. The lover thinks he is a fool too. For him the first thing is to convert people to his Church; to do something good for his nation, city or village.

The fourth occupation, Moksha, is different again. This means to work for paradise, for heaven, for heavenly peace. What is the use of bothering about ones duty? The whole aim is heaven; that is the happiness to look for. All things will change, all will pass – wealth, earthly love – they are all changeable. But paradise, the happiness one can get in the hereafter after all the suffering here, that is the unchangeable. A man who thinks thus is pious. He suffers all his life; he goes through all kinds of pain; he is seeking for that paradise. The lover may say, 'How foolish; my paradise is on earth. My beloved is my love. What a foolish person to sacrifice all this, and who knows what will come hereafter?' But the other says, 'I can create my own paradise with my wealth'.

These four paths are diverse. Everyone considers his own the best and wisest. The Sufi looks on all with tolerance, and knows that there is a path for everyone. The path of the lover is for him, the path of the one seeking for wealth is for him, the seeker after paradise is following his path, it is all a journey. It is simply that there are four different routes by which the journey is made. The Sufi sees the same goal at the end of each; the lover has to meet the seeker after wealth, and both have to meet the one who has done his duty. Therefore at the end of their journey there is a place where they can meet. What does it matter if one does not go by a certain path? Let each choose the way that belongs to his own temperament and tendency. Therefore the Sufi does not worry. He gives no preference to one or the other. He sees the journey of life being made along one or other of these roads. The saying of Buddha, 'Forgive all', comes true. Forgiveness does not come by learning, it comes by understanding that a person should be allowed to travel along that path which is suited to his temperament. As long as he is journeying with open eyes, let him journey.

I do believe we have already spent way too much time butting heads and attempting to defend our opinions, expending way too much vital energy on this matter as you have pointed out. And that is precisely why I deleted the whole section on politics. So now that you were kind enough to veer the conversation in a different direction, I need time to asses and review what you just said  in the last post, before responding. Perhaps someone else will respond in the meantime. This site is not all about the two of us and our views. So I welcome anyone else to comment here before I do again.

I have thought about it and I add this;

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, a frequent Trump critic, offered some of the most pointed criticism of Trump's remarks.

“That’s highly offensive," he said. "We do not in this country attack people based upon their religious beliefs or their political views.”

“Conflating religion to politics is an enormous error and violates some of the founding principles of our, of our government and our American history. It’s a terrible mistake on his part, for which he really ought to apologize but won’t,” Romney added.

The firestorm started when Trump said in an interview with Sebastian Gorka, a former Trump administration official, that "any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion."

So now I would like to respond to Eric’s comment below;

“When we manage to rise through duality, will the devil and God be One?

And, do you think Putin or President Trump are Gods children deserving Love?”

The answer I give is this; yes…all God’s children deserving of love…. although people like Trump and Putin who make such remarks and in the case of Putin, murder and torture those who disagree with them. Such people are not the type of people I will support or defend in their actions and comments. Do you think any spiritual master would?
