Cheney warns of ‘profoundly negative impact’ if SCOTUS doesn’t resolve Trump immunity case quickly

Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney said Monday if the Supreme Court does not resolve the issue of presidential immunity “quickly and decisively,” it will have a “profoundly negative impact” on the country.

In a New York Times Op-Ed, Cheney argues that, “If delay prevents this Trump case from being tried this year, the public may never hear critical and historic evidence developed before the grand jury, and our system may never hold the man most responsible for Jan. 6 to account.”

Her message comes before the high court is set to hear arguments later this month in the blockbuster case over whether Trump may claim immunity from prosecution in the federal election subversion case.

Special counsel Jack Smith, who brought the criminal charges, has sought to speed up the proceedings over Trump’s immunity claim so that he can bring the matter to trial as quickly as possible.

Trump, however, has told the justices that if they were not willing to grant him full immunity from Smith’s election subversion prosecution, they should send the case back to lower courts for more proceedings – a move that would push off a trial for many months – to determine whether any partial theory of immunity would apply in his case.

The alternative route could afford the court’s conservative majority an “off-ramp” that would hamstring the special counsel without taking a blanket view of immunity for former presidents.
Cheney wrote that there is “historic testimony” about Trump’s conduct that is “likely to remain secret until the special counsel presents his case at trial.”

The Wyoming Republican added that the evidence should be presented in open court so that the public can “fully assess what Mr. Trump did on Jan. 6 and what a man capable of that type of depravity could do if again handed the awesome power of the presidency.”

“The Supreme Court should understand this reality and conclude without delay that no immunity applies here,” she said.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, one of the most prominent Republicans in the last half-century, announced Friday will be crossing party lines this election and voting for Vice President Kamala Harris, contending former President Donald Trump "can never be trusted with power again."

"In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him," he said in a statement.

"As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris."

mccoy your one to one ratio does not play out in reality. Although at one time no doubt it made sense to someone.

In a 2022 Truth Social post, Trump called for the “termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” as he continued to falsely assert there was “massive fraud” in the 2020 election.

Steve, I don't know, the Democrats have lost credibility since the beginning of Mr. Trump's mandate, when they tried at all costs to prove a connection with Russia which did not exist.

Since Mr. Trump's persecution started at the inception of his mandate, this is a hint that the Dems did not tolerate their loss of power. They did not tolerate an outsider challenging their ruling.

Since then, everything has gone downhill. Mr Trump is not a champion of presidential qualities, but he is an evident victim of a deranged political situation.

What I see here mccoy is you have a spin doctor in your head that keeps you in the labyrinth of your own mind. You attempt to defend and rationalize Dishonest Don’s lies. He is not a victim of persecution but a victim of his own crimes and habits.

The incidental supposed ‘mandate’ is only the tip of the iceberg. And although we know that Donald Trump attempted to manipulate Zelinsky when he needed to have support against what turned out to be Putin’s aggression, it is only the tip of the iceberg in the life of a national criminal. This man has a litany of crimes and lies that have continued throughout his life. It may take incarnations to extract him from his criminal life and karma. He chose a life of public exposure. The President of the United States should have some exemplary behavior and principles. This man shows none and is a disgrace to humanity.

He attempts to promote the life style of a ‘winner’ by degrading war heroes because they were ‘stupid enough’ to fight for freedom. He glorifies dictators and tyrants. He elevated the privileged and denigrates those showing effort and tenacity in making the world a better place to live. He rationalizes his attempts to overthrow the government and the choice of the people in free elections. He is delinquent on his bills and stiffs those he owes. He consistently makes up untrue stories and statements about those who do not agree with his views. And now his philosophy has extended to taking revenge on his opponents and those who will not bend to his will and behavioral ineptitudes. What if anything can we give him credit for as a human being?

This thread is a blog about Liz Cheney. She does not reflect many of my personal political views. However she shows the courage to stand up for the truth in regards to Donald Trump. She really did not attempt to have him permanently out of power because of what happened with Russia. Let us look at  why she is fighting to keep him out of office….

There were not enough cops to stop Stalin from killing millions of his citizens, similarly there are not enough cops to reap all the injustices of a Donald Trump. I’ll let God work his own justice. But I’m very grateful for the ethics and integrity of Liz Cheney, and though Donald Trump may take revenge on his adversaries, his revenge will be his judgment. He has shown that his ego attempts to play the role of God. But any one with any wisdom will assess the error in such behavior.

I have provided so much evidence over the years that anything now would be redundant, since you always downplay all the evidence. There is a difference between revenge and presenting facts. What I’ve observed is that political views held by people like Donald Trump demand loyalty and a type of cult worship that does not require any adherence to truth or facts. It is as though no evidence matters to keep a view of favorable ideological conformity to one’s personal biases and opinions. Some people cannot discriminate between these important differences. At one point I deleted whole swaths of evidence in hopes of assuaging the political leanings of our good friend Eric but as you see that made little difference in his attitude towards me and my views.

Liz Cheney also provided endless evidence. My attitude towards our differences and your view is this….( I find much assurance and respect in our mutual understanding of spirituality, that is of transcendence to any transient differences in regards to passing world affairs and present opinions and facts on such matters.)….Babaji’s comments on such matters, confirms to my attitude towards these discussions….

We, the imperfect devotees, cannot disciminate if not applying our imperfect wisdom and hoping to have adhered to the right sphere of thought.

In this matter, we obviously have adhered to opposite spheres of thought, mostly.

But at least one of us is right, so it makes 50% that si probably right.

That's not a bad percentage after all. Had we both adhered to one narrative, we might have been 100% right but we might also have been 100% wrong.

Somehow my last post was deleted or absorbed in another thread. I will attempt to recreate it here. I see no reason to find anyone ‘right’ or wrong here. These are terms confined to such dogmatic ideas that describes duality. We are in this life to learn and progress out of duality. I doubt very seriously that the Consciousness of Babaji dwells on such matters. History itself takes sometimes hundreds of years to determine the outcome of a country’s misdeeds or benefits to human nature. For the most part we are here to learn and evolve. Not to judge one another or even the final outcome of events.

We have seen even some questionable characters in history come back in another Incarnation to prove their worth, even though they may have committed crimes in the past, the soul will eventually resurrect itself no matter what it’s shames in this or previous episodes in terrestrial lives. The outcome of historical events most likely will not even be clearly seen till centuries later. Witness the fall of the Roman Empire which took several centuries to take place and very little assessment was clear to most people living in those times, except perhaps for a few seers whose council was usually left behind and not understood by the masses.

Mccoy from my vantage point, you and I have had wonderful encounters here. If we continue practicing detachment in our observations we will have no problem 😉 navigating our differences and encouraging and continuing to support our spiritual aspirations.
