Always wanted to start a thread about some of my favorite Sci FI films. It interests me that you find this si fi likable. I’m quite a fan of Si Fi myself and really liked films like; Dreamscape, Labyrinth, 2001, Dune, Clockwork Orange, Close Encounters, Somewhere in Time and my favorite was the Russian version of Solaris. And yes I liked most of the ‘ Twilght Zone’ episodes.

I guess you never watched "Jupiter Ascending", Steve.

The one I liked most is Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. The physics upon which it is based is in part real, the gravity field of black holes, the slower timeflow near the mass concentration in the space time and so on. Kip Thorne, the Nobel Prize for the LIGO system of gravity waves detection, was hired as a consultant.

Thanks mccoy I’ll keep it on my list.

Mccoy that's an all time favorite of mine. I've recently shared a few clips here from the scene where he is with TARS and communicating to Murph from somewhere in space. I was contemplating the nature of communication with the subconscious and an active/responsive invisible guidance(possibly intelligence of higher dimension and not limited to 3D linear reality). I also really love the work of Hans Zimmer.

The new DUNE series in theatres was a fantastic experience- and of course, Hans Zimmer's accompaniment ...

Another spacey sci-fi I've enjoyed is called, "The Expanse" where I am told by fans the TV-series is just as good as the books ...

and another called, "The Man in High Castle" which is a dystopic alternate history where Germany and Japan rule the world after WW2. What makes it so sci-fi? You'll have to give it a watch and find out. = )

Eric, When I'll have time I'll download the book by Kip Thorne: "The physics of Interstellar' and watch the film again while reading the Nobel prize's explanations of the various scenes. I was impressed by the gigantic tidal waves on the planet close to the black hole. There is a clip on youtube where Kip Thorne explains the physics of this particular planet, the time dilation si pretty extreme and even he had some difficulties in coming up with reasonable setups for this extreme slowness of the time arrow.

I saw the new dunes and I'm eagerly looking forward to the sequel.

The expanse, I didn't see, I'll look it up if it is available on Netflix or prime.

The man on the high castle, good work of fiction, I started to see it time ago, I'll have to resume.

I forgot to add another favorite
Arrival

The movie is free with ads below:

If you have never seen it, and watch it- let me know!

Quote
Heptapods are a sapient, space-faring extraterrestrial species. After first contact with Humans, two Heptapods, nicknamed Abbott and Costello, attempted to communicate with Dr. Louise Banks and Ian Donnelly from their ship in Montana.
These aliens are enigmatic creatures, which have come to Earth to offer Humans their language in exchange for humanity's help in the future. They are benevolent beings, whose ultimate goal is to unite humanity, as they will need their help.

Heptapods use low-pitched, thrumming vocal communication that is unpronounceable by Humans (classified as Heptapod A), and a written script (Heptapod B). The vocal and writing components are unrelated. Heptapod B does not represent sound. As they have no apparent eyes, the low clicking sounds may be some form of echolocation.

Their written script consists of strange circular shapes created with a black ink-like substance. The circular shapes are modular, being comprised of various sub-sections conveying different meanings or concepts. Heptapod B can induce a non-linear perception of time for those who intimately learn and understand the language, due to their “logograms” being “free of time”, an instantly complete whole meaning rather than an unfolding line of meaning like English.

Sapir Whorf Hypothesis

"The Sapir–Whorf hypothesis, also known as the linguistic relativity hypothesis, refers to the proposal that the particular language one speaks influences the way one thinks about reality. Linguistic relativity stands in close relation to semiotic-level concerns with the general relation of language and thought, and to discourse-level concerns with how patterns of language use in cultural context can affect thought. Linguistic relativity is distinguished both from simple linguistic diversity and from strict linguistic determinism. The long history of the hypothesis is sketched with an emphasis on the hierarchical formulations characteristic of most early efforts. This is followed by a description of the work of Sapir and Whorf which departs markedly from this earlier tradition and has been influential in the contemporary period, hence the association of their names with the issue. Whorf's basic argument about analogical influences is outlined in some detail. Despite widespread interest, quality empirical research has been in short supply. Recent efforts to remedy this are described. The research is divided into structure-centered, domain-centered, and behavior-centered types, depending on their manner of approaching the problem. The contemporary period has seen a rapid improvement in the quality of some of these efforts. Current trends likely to characterize future research are briefly characterized."

I enjoyed the film, I like movies that stimulate constructive reasoning and are thought-challenging. Besides, the figure of very different aliens is always fascinating.

I’m thinking that the thought may originate somewhere deep in our subconscious or that we have forgotten. That is because the Masters have told us our souls have often been in different planetary environments. I often have quite an attraction towards what I’ve heard the Pleiadians look like and act like.

And speaking of thought-challenging Sci-fi, I can think of no other comparison to Solaris the Russian version.
