To properly partake in Reiki one needs two things, intent and to be attuned to source. To be attuned to source one needs to seek out a proper teacher that can attune you. You can be attuned one of two ways. Through a workshop/class or from a distance. I would probably say the better route would be a class as you can build a better relationship one on one in a class than you can thought email. Of course this is also the age of technology and you can easily skype as well as you could being in a one on one environment. Yet, in person you can practice the hand positions more.

The original reiki that we know of is Usui Reiki. I would say, if you could, to learn the original first. So you can what it's all about, and learn the pure reiki that is around. Yes, any Reiki is based on Reiki, but it's best to get the original source material.

Chakra clearing can be a part of Reiki as you can use the Reiki to work with the chakras. I would recommond if you were to work with the chakras to have a basic knowledge of the chakras. In case anything comes up while working on them you can know what you need to do to get them flowing smoothly.
