Intereststs; Meditation/Spiritual Life

« on: Feb 09, 2023 12:33 pm »

Why do we as humans have a difficult time sitting still in meditation? Because we constantly have a desire for stimulation. When stimulation is not forthcoming in another person we seek it in something else.  If humans are not available we seek it in the news or books, movies or games. It is very difficult for most of us to discipline ourselves to be still and explore what happens beyond movement. We all have been in a state of restlessness for countless life times, besides this life. Now to reverse that process is quite often easier said then done. Much of the time we put our attention on ‘responsibilities’ .

However,  how much time do we consider as responsible for meditation? Most people do not consider it important to have a daily meditation. Why do some of us here feel it is? Because from countless lives on earth and terrestrial life times, we have found that we are on a swing of dualism, presenting itself in a little enjoyment provided by sensory pleasure followed by suffering of one sort or another. This sequence of events gives rise to the hope that something lies beyond the pleasures and pains arising from being alive. With this hope came methods by the Rishi’s and Masters to eliminate suffering. They all pointed to ethical values and techniques of spiritual of awakening which included meditation.

Most people that are not just struggling with staying alive and paying bills are involved in endless distractions to fulfill a deep boredom and longing in their lives. This creation has provided endless possibilities for entertainment and so called enjoyment. Yet when we have been on countless returns to this planet we begin to wonder if any of these momentary fulfillments will bring any lasting and ever new joys.

After spending years at meditation we begin to discover there are inner joys that actually are much more fulfilling then outer promises. So we gradually spend more and more time at spiritual activities and meditation, in recognition that they provide more lasting happiness then sensory stimulation is able to give us.
