Thanks for the last replies here. Yes I’ve found that often aromas influence the meditation atmosphere. If it weren’t so, why is it you go to so many monasteries and meditation retreats and sessions and there is incense burning.

 Recently I’ve added smoking sage to some of my early morning meditations. It has a distinct effect on my practice. It has a forestry smell and reminds me of days spent in large forests that often have distinct aromas, and the burning of leaves I used to smell as a teenager when we were allowed to burn them in larger cities and streets.
