This theory was proposed on a recent episode of ancient aliens by dr michio kaku. He mentioned image slicing and the ability to replicate the brain of an insect and even suggested humans would have the capability in the near future to replicate the brain. He goes on to say that this is a means to space travel... Not just for humans. Do I think it's possible? Yes.
Do I also think there's a different path, other than a physical one? Yes. I think there are two paths here...
But before I explain further, let me share this video. I could not find the ancient aliens episode available to show you, probably because it's so new.
But here is what I did find that kind of gets into this whole question you've posed for yourself.
Now... Back to the separate paths. I think there are physical means- and I think there are non-physical means. I know there is a reality that can be experienced outside the body. Is this reality the "ALL-MIND"? A field of potentiality in which all creation stem from? I don't know. But I know that telepathy is real, I know astral travel is real, I believe Yogananda saw Sri Yukteswariji manifest himself after his physical passing. I believe Swami Vidyadhishananda who says he has communicated with interdimensional beings while spending time in the caves of the himalayan mountain. And these folks aren't scientist dissecting brains or creating AI.
We know the military has used remote viewing and invested in psychokinetics and here we have an entire thread dedicated to Zero Point Energy or Scalar Energy.
Personally, I am hesitant when we start thinking the physical way is the only way. But it is a valid path and therefore belonging to the Creator. That means AI(artificial intelligence) is a part of God. I choose not to fear this path, but also choose not to opt in to every new discovery and experiment. Just like I do not opt in for most allopathic medicine but allopathy is a valid path for many. In the end, each path has something to offer the other and all should exist harmoniously.

As a side note, it bewilders me when Dr. Michio Kaku says,
"And to those who claim they've been abducted- next time your on their ship, steal something."
Not because he advocates theft, but he is either playing dumb or stuck in the very physical framework of seeing this reality.
But even if we were talking purely physical(which we aren't)then look no further than the original video of this thread where it is explained that alien technology has indeed been stolen and reverse engineered. Do I really think Dr. Michio Kaku is genuine when he says something like that to abductees? No, I believe he is suppressing information intentionally. My fondness for Michio Kaku was developed in the early years when he explained the Kardashev scale and talked about the different sources of energy we would harvest as civilization advances and our ultimate destiny with space travel.
