Picking up peoples energy through their eyes?

I'm sharing this in multiple places with the hopes to receive others feedback.

I'm a people-watcher. I often find myself staring into peoples eyes unintentionally. In some cultures that is completely disrespectful. It used to be no problem as a kid, most people aren't phased by kids.

I've been picking up some strange energy lately. I think it has more to do with living in a city, which has become increasingly violent.

I really think eyes are windows to the soul. Yesterday, near the end of my shift, I helped a customer. I was tired- I don't think I'm as grounded as I could be. I felt my left eye opening up really wide, and a strange whirling energy being sucked into this mans gaze. I think I was unintentionally looking too deep. Meanwhile, I'm talking to him because I am explaining our store concept and trying to educate him with what we have to offer. I feel this aggression from him, even though we are being completely cordial. At one point the energy gets so unnerving I start awkwardly smiling, and suddenly I have a flash of his face going completely angry and see him pushing his shoulders forward ready to attack/defend. But none of that actually happened... Or, so I think. I mean... By the end of it we shook hands and I tried joking with him, "hey its been a long day so if my eyes are crossing on their own you'll have to excuse me"
"I feel that" he says, playing cool as he leaves the store.

But what was that really aggressive sensation? I had the thought that this man thought I was homosexual or something and was being very defensive energetically speaking.

It's not the first time I've felt a whirling energy as my left eye in particular opens up much wider than what feels normal. Like I am going through that portal experience. It actually kind of hurts sometimes and I wished the other eye would open up just as wide to balance things out.

Today I tried picking up some ingredients at the store. I find people looking into my eyes for something. So I'm looking back and trying to give a friendly hello. Instead I see the response is more aggression. Though I did not engage eye contact, as I meet others eye-to-eye the energy back was very defensive and aggressive or very concerned and uneasy. A man was angry and saying something under his breath as he walked behind me. The kid at the counter asked how I am, I told him I'm well and asked how he's doing. He started getting nervous and I could feel the awkward energy in my nerves. I didn't even look that long into his eyes, but it was like I was accidently going too deep again. I felt a lot of anger from people. But is it me? I don't think so... I do think I attract weird occurrences though... Like the kid who flashed his gun and threatened to shoot me.

I just wonder if anyone else feels similar at times. Why is it so hard to just smile and give people a nice feeling? It's a sad state of affairs to feel so much aggression. Do you ever find you are accidentally looking deeper into someones eyes than what is considered socially polite?

Maybe I need to meditate more.
