I agree that Bakhtananda's words sound very hard, but conceptually, according to the mathematically precise law of karma, that makes sense.

I sympathize with people who have been totally paralyzed on a bed for years and years and decide to receive euthanasia. But it is clear that they are avoiding horrible karma. That karma constitutes some necessary retribution from past lives. So, they'll have to incur again the same karma (minus the suffering already experienced, plus the additional karma incurred from suicide).

From the perspective of logic, it totally adds up.
