Some of the illustrations usually used to elucidate the warp in the fabric of spacetime. When a spaceship navigates the funnel-like distortion caused by a concentrated mass (like a star, or a black hole) it goes thru a longer distance, compared to a perfectly flat surface of spacetime. That funnel, that longer distance, is not in our dimension!!!
A BH cause such a pronounced and deep funnel that all kinds of weird things happen, the weirdest being the extreme slowing of time flow, which stops to a halt at the singularity.
This time contraction has been described in the film Interstellar, which I saw twice but not understood. I understood something only after having seen some explanations from its scientific consultant, Kip Thorne, nobel prize in physics.
