Steve, you describe it precisely, some aspects of the universe simply defy human logic.

My attention recently went to the more recent estimate of the number of galaxies in the universe. It is 2 trillion, that is 2 thousand billion. It is almost like saying that in the observable universe there are 2 thousand billion sub-universes since intergalactic space is so huge that travel among galaxies is, as far as we know, impossible (baring epochal breakthroughs).

In our  galaxy there is an estimate of 100 thousand million stars (100 billion stars).

The number of stars, potential hose of life containing planets, in the whole universe, becomes so huge to be a little hard to grasp.
