Selfishness

We may find as we get closer to many people - definitely not all - that there is a selfishness or duplicity in them. This may make us want to recoil and retreat in ourselves. Especially if we know without a doubt that we would not treat them that way. It is in this way we gain a knowledge of those around us and who we meet and an understanding of who we are. In our aloneness though we often find a consolation that most human beings cannot give us. This can be found in hours of solitude and meditation.

What is important to recognize is that many people-including ourselves-are unaware of how selfish they can be. As an example Vladimir Putin. He most likely sincerely believes that his actions are for the well being of his people. This does not make it true. Therefore we ourselves - to a lesser extent - carry selfish and delusional thinking. Meditation can awaken us to these blind spots we have.
