Recently i have been thinking about Eric-his expression over the years at spiritualportal-and his natal chart. I wondered about strong planets in his chart that show points of power and soul evolution. As i looked at his chart i recognized the planet Neptune stands out within a few degrees of the ascendent or rising sign. In Ray Merrimans writings on evolutionary astrology we find this description of a soul-like Eric-who was born with Neptune close to the horizon;

The angles on the horizon also represent the development of great power the power here however has been derived from a strong individual will and not necessarily through one's understanding of a higher will it has been developed through the souls prior dealings with others in the realm of Maya. These abilities of powers may be used or misused for they pertain to one's relationship to others again in the world of Maya for example, a Neptune Rising may denote one who has developed great intuitive, clairvoyant gifts. But this individual must be careful that the personal will (ego) does not interfere with the expression of these gifts. If the ego does get in the way, then the native may develop a "Messiah complex" thinking falsely that he is some how a great spiritual leader because others seem to follow blindly.  This Messiah complex will then get in the way of the natives ability to truly guide others with his or her gifts. In delineating the horizons significance, it is helpful to consider the ascendent as what one uses in dealing with others and the descendent as "what others have that one might use". Planets which are rising at birth, then, show the gifts and abilities which that individual may call upon to aid in any given situation-gifts and abilities which lie within the self. ~ Merriman
