I’ve climbed any hill and mountain to meditate at the top, but that looks too challenging. One can never know with all the hot air circulation around here lately. I may be transported to the top!

Yea to some extent all the people in our environment reflect certain attributes of ourselves and help us see ourselves clearer. Thanks for this interesting place in Norway.

Si you you have picked some people that evoke memories and impact on our lives. Some people like Ingrid Bergman have tremendous magnetism however I have also experienced the magnetism of spiritual charismatic people. That magnetism is something that you are not at sometime later repulsed by. There is not the typical dual nature that makes you feel like what you experienced was an illusion. In fact the physical body was not what attracted you but rather the inner pull that defies material attraction. I think it is important to recognize that even women like this, sit on the toilet and when you look inside their body you will see they look hideous from a physical point of view.Perhaps she was also spiritual, I’ve never heard about that. But she could play the role as Joan of Arc. So talent she had. I’ve met beautiful women who could act but when you saw through the acting you were disillusioned by the insensitivity and ego you discovered. I heard she caused a scandal but that is probably the warped views of moral indignation. She emitted character.

Why does God compel us to feel attracted to faded memories? Yet we still feed them in our thoughts. Isn’t it a bit of irony played upon us all, that we all have to face the indignation of wilting like a flower despite how handsome or pretty the body was at one time. So we my as well seek a lasting beauty that others are attracted to that goes beyond the grave. It is consoling to know we can work on spiritual magnetism at any age and I’ve experienced that coming from many people who had little physical attraction. Some people are able to see auras and rays that others emit, think of how your sense of beauty would be different if you could do that. Perhaps some of us here have met such beings. I will say that I honestly have felt the magnetism of spiritual attraction and it is something that is far more lasting and compelling and appealing when it is experienced.

Hold on to that thought. A monk at SRF told me about an SRFer who was attempting to meditate at services. He was so popular with the girls they would for instance, put their number on a piece  of paper and stick it in his jacket pocket, while he sat there meditating. A guess it takes all types. The monk just was explaining he was attempting to make a spiritual effort but was irritated that he could get little peace with so many distractions. So I imagine a lady like Ingrid Bergman must have never got a chance to find out what meditation is. I think it takes some big challenges in life for most people attempting to find something better and more rewarding. Which leads me to say I would rather be me then say an Elvis Presley. As the story about him goes; He knew and spent personal time with Day Mata. A girl friend in S R F introduced him to meditation. But Daya Mata would not give him Kriya; explaining that he was meant for his fans this life. Popularity, although not impossible, in this world, rarely gives favor with God. Because with it brings so many seductions more easily attainable then for most of us. Meditation takes a daily commitment to really see long lasting meaningful results.

Another issue: imagine we are like the devotee besieged by female devotees. Amidst so many, whom would you choose? Personally, after choosing one, I would also be sad for the others whom I had to turn down (a true devotee would not engage in polyamorous relationships and of course the female devotees would refuse that). And also would come the issue of the wisdom of the choice, to be revealed only later with time.
And of course, the burden of the popularity, it becomes a responsibility, like the one Presley felt, so much so that he became anxious, developing mental issues which eventually killed him.

A final aspect. I heard a couple of time Tony Robbins about this. People struggle so much, then a few of them achieve immense success. How much do the joy and satisfaction last? 3 hours to 3 months, was the precise answer of Tony robbins, who used to consult such people, taken aback that, after achieving so much, they felt unsatisfied.
In such an aspect, the words of Yogananda are 100% true. Material achievements will most often not provide final satisfaction.
