Revelation 1:17 — “And when I saw him I fell at his feet as dead.”

During the time of the vision of the subtle body and the centers, there was relaxation of energy in the involuntary organs in the body; otherwise, the outgoing life current would have kept the mind distracted with gross sensations. The deathlike suspended state of the physical body was perceived in a conscious trance as resting under the hovering luminous feet of the astral body.

Saint John realized, as do the great Hindu yogis, that when the astral body is perceived as separate from the physical body the physical body consciously relaxes and appears lifeless like that of a dead man. In conscious relaxation of the involuntary organs, the astral energy goes out of the sensory and motor instruments leaving the body inert, untenanted, but its cellular structure vitally sustained,  like an unlighted bulb from which the electricity has been switched off but which can be switched on again at will.

Perhaps sometime you have meditated and felt as if the physical body was dead and you were in a trance and transcended body consciousness. The body feels like it is sleeping and numb as the conscious awareness is drawn into a trance like space of peace with a consciousness of freedom from the limitations of body consciousness.
