Hi. I'm new to this site reading this recent post, which is a great question by the way on karma and people doing evil or harmful things. from my experience, each person, each connection good or bad brings reflection and opportunity for growth. People are people that have potential for expending a lot of harm or very little harm - if you look at yourself and say, "oh not me, never" well possibly you haven't been put in a position for it to come out yet - life is a mystery that cannot be compartmentalized - each day is anew with so many variables seen and unseen. I try to wake up each day and say, this is how I would like to positively respond to life's experiences today, sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't. when it doesn't i wake up a little more to human nature. I also try to remember that all so called "evil doers" have a mother. I am beginning to see more and more that working on the mind and character are more important than working on "the spirit". thanks for this outlet letting me share. Kalunga

'Being put in a position for it to come out' as you say is very true for me over the years. I really did not know how I would respond to another person or a sequence of events until they happened. In retrospect I would have done it much different . But how did we know that such things would happen? How did we know people we spend so much time with would react the way they have towards us? We may have thought we acted appropriate at the time but someone else may have looked at things quite different. So that is where the 'reflection and time for growth' come in.
Perhaps you are finding that 'working on the mind and character' are more important than 'working on the spirit'
because we can work on our mind and character and increase our ability to express our spirit in the process.
The spirit is something we tap into. We can do all the right things and nothing spiritually seems to happen. It is by grace that we have spiritual experience.... by grace. We only can do what the great ones have told us. If we can follow their advice we will eventually experience spirit. When we do have spiritual experience our faith and motivation increases. Yet we will be discouraged again. This is the human part. But even the discouragement develops tolerance and compassion . Because we understand more and more what it is like to be human and what others are going through in this struggle we face in being in truth what we really are and not as we have imagined we were. This struggle to find self-realization.
