Hi Steve,
I guess some people, no matter how hard you’ve tried, just don’t work out. I don’t think judging whether someone is real or not is the right way to look at things. For me at least, those that are gone were never untrue. I took a sales job for a friend years ago and watched him lose people that cared about him because his personality unfolded for the worse from the stresses of his career. I eventually grew tired of this friend too, which sounds bad to say but it happened. He knew it. Now he’s on a different path and we don’t hang out so much but talk through group messages and I still find myself weary or hesitant from particular aspects of his personality... doesn’t mean I don’t love him... I suppose My ex felt this way about me too, In some fashion. doesn’t mean she isn’t a real friend. Both of these people I’d say I’ve given a lot of my heart to. All I can really do is humble myself and make peace with the reality... should we try again I hope to be more conscious of our interactions in a way that is engaged with positivity but detached from all the drama- after years of trying some people are just hard to be around and I’m no exception to the rule. I guess you could say my one friend and I are still trying to maintain friendship despite our very conflicting personalities. I would say our love and respect for each other- is still there. Same for J and I.
