A red wasp was flying around me during our phone call Steve.

I can't find the story I wanted to share concerning Inayat Khan and his students. Or maybe I read this in AoY?? The story goes that some neighboring facility started spreading rumors of Inayat Khan and his students. Inayat Khan(Or Yogananda)... I really think this story is about the former... Told his students to pay no mind. To continue their practices, and not give life to the rumors being spread. Some of the things they said caused people to look at them differently- create barriers, create animosity, tension... Yet the students never stopped practicing- and when opportunity presented itself, they showed kindness even to those who would spread rumors. Eventually all that movement died down. The spiritual foundation was recognized as a great strength despite all the stings coming from the very neighbors the students showed kindness to.

I am going through this at work, a teenage girl was made distraught and I was not showing the most patience in response. It created tension. Now when I work with her age group the girls have gathered in their gossip. The only way forward is to pay no mind and to continue to be nice, despite the very clear rudeness. It's not that I am allowing rude behavior in the workplace, it's that I am working on not taking it personally- still administering duties and offering a lending hand when able. They will either grow out of gossip and childish antics, or they will carry that drama with them. I realize I get stung often when I invest a lot into someone- someone I think a friend or someone I put energy into, feeling like I've helped them get to a point of confidence in their life- only to be walked on down the road or to have the kind gestures thrown in the trash. That's when it's hard not to take things personally. But I see in the end it's more important to continue ones spiritual practices, then to worry about the misdeed or misconduct of another.
