Receiving a human birth is a gift and it is a blessing. Many people have a feeling of uselessness. It is a sense of self pity. When we continue to think we are useless we will affirm this and create others around us who feel the same.

From the company of spiritual people we gain inspiration on the spiritual path. You can rekindle the embers of a fire that has gone down but having negative influences is like dumping sand on a fire. The universe is interconnected. We are not individual islands. Discipline on the spiritual path is like putting wire around a tree to keep the deer out or like a staircase to take us to spiritual heights.
