Attraction and Repulsion

Most people do not recognize this dual characteristic in relationships therefore they become irate and/or disillusioned when the opposite of attraction manifests in relationships that once were magnetically attractive. It is somewhat of a physical law that what swings one way will eventually swing the other.

This is one driving force behind the practice of meditation. That is to rise above such dualities. When we have a sense of peace and equanimity such opposites that most people feel with full force have less and less affect on us.

Thought I’d come back to this since Eric brought it up to me today. And his insight is correct from my vantage point. We, for the most part are caught up in duality. We desire to see people but soon grow tired of their presence. Then want someone else. We miss someone, but soon find their presence at times becomes irritating. We notice someone’s unique talents but soon find their idiosyncrasies can be a nuisance. We get excited about a certain type of music but after awhile find it monotonous. Everything is subject to duality, and the most magnetic qualities can change and vary and sometimes be repulsive. We can see these various qualities after years of living and begin to wonder how it is that a so called saint can hug over 40 million people and not eventually grow weary of it. Amma has said that when she looks out at an audience she sees beautiful colors like flowers. It is obvious she is seeing something that most of us cannot yet see. She is seeing the souls of all those who come to see her. So she is seeing beyond duality. To what extent are we able to rise above the dual nature of this world and witness a higher dimension of conscious being; so we too are not affected by the dual nature of like/dislike, attraction/ repulsion, excitement/ boredom and all the dual qualities of material existence?

Attempting at all times to rise above the temporary relativities of life’s drama; the ups and and downs  that make us become as human ferris wheels. The probability is that most, if not all of us, have chosen a role to play here. I say this because some have veered so far from the role they decided to act out that it can hardly be said they made choices that benefited their role and future karmic consequences.
