Stillness:

It appears to me that the number one ingredient in a effective meditation is stillness. If you can find a place where it is absolutely quiet you are much better off. i can't tell you how many times i was at SRF meditations and the person in charge or the monastic there would emphasize not moving around and making noise. God/Spirit likes stillness and will creep into your consciousness if you can maintain that stillness...in environment body and mind.

When the body and mind become still it is much easier to calm the mind. Any exterior sound can take you out of that inner tranquility that brings moments of bliss.
