I Always enjoyed meditating in the Woods or in the mountains, I agree that's conducive to a good meditation, providing there are not many bugs around. I remember I was meditating in a wood, cross-legged against a tree trunk, I was not meditating deeply so some commotion made me open my eyes and I saw a wild boar running right against me. I stood up alarmed and it deviated its course, probably saw me just then.
I think those who meditated in the Woods have some funny story to tell. Another time I remember it was so relaxing in this mountain meadow that I just fell asleep. I also meditated in caves, in the deepest darkness and that's pretty nice as well. Meditating on the snow with freezing temperatures is also great.

Meditation is our great passion and it is a wonderful one to have because it is the gateway to finding a way out of this material dimension into true reality. There are certain times that are more suited to meditation when earth vibrations are suited to calming the body and mind. I find the best times are at dusk and dawn. These are the golden hours. The mind settles down as it is receptive to the energy of the Sun retreating over the horizon. If it is possible you can look directly into the Sun about 15 minutes before it sets and you can still visualize it after it sets in the afterglow. If not though; the lite dims if you are at an outdoors place or near windows. This has a calming affect on the consciousness. The restless activity of the day settles down and it is easier to interiorize. The breath and thoughts seem to settle down with nature's activities doing the same.

Watch the breath. If you have woolen blanket put it under yourself. It helps insulate you from the earth currents. Calm yourself and witness the peace around you. Bring your attention to the spine which is the alter of God. Practice a mantra with the in flow of the breath and the exhalation. Be an observer to the longer spaces between the breath. Everything is calming down now. Your heart your breath and your thoughts. Let yourself enjoy the feeling of just being...  just being
