It is about 10 KM from Patna, ancient capital of Mauryan Empire and now capital of bihar. It is about 350 KM from Ranchi. Lahiri mahasaya lived here in about 1860 or so and in a very low profile. Dinapore is a military station since 1750. In 1997 a YSS Devotee (Brig Rawat, then commander of the Dinapore military station) tried to trace the ancient MES (Military Engineering service) office where Lahiri Mahasaya had worked and found that building to be used as Gurudwara(a sikh temple) for Sikh soldiers. My father  told me that then Lahiri Mahasaya had some  disciple in the villages around Dinapore and one of his disciple, a simple farmer, went to meeting of scholars at Bankipore called by the Zamindar and surprised everyone by his knowledge.
