About seeing Amma ~

I had an odd experience the last time she was in my city... I took a friend who had travelled extensively in India.  Somehow, we ended up in 2 separate lines going to the stage for a hug from Amma.  While working my way forward, I was asked if I wanted to receive a mantra from Amma. I said "Yes.", and when offered to select a type of mantra, requested a Christian focussed one, and so took about 45 minutes longer than my friend, who I could see sitting in the audience while I went through the new line; she was in constant conversation hI with the woman sitting next to her and I couldn't catch her eye.  It turned out that she hadn't been asked if she'd like the guru to give her a mantra and as soon as I told her what kept me in line longer she began to curse me for not "asking Amma for a mantra" for her, too!  I found myself in wondering... what is she thinking?  Of course that's not the way a guru gives a mantra!  It was a very strange experience; such negative energy leaving the "Hugging Saint!"  But, my friend was often that way since I've known her... not cursing me, but often seeing the negative side of things, judgmental and blaming others; so strange.  Another thing ~ she has never said that she is sorry (for anything) in the 35 years that I've known her.

Nowadays she sends me emails via the internet, like short stories about funny or rescued animals, or jokes; that's the extent of our relationship.  And the mantra I was given ~ it was important, I was told, to repeat it.  But I found the challenge of the negative associations regarding my friend, her unhappiness and really, plain meanness, was an association that prevailed over the positive aspect of the experience.  Perhaps I should go and try again... listen to Amma whisper another mantra  meaningless. In the end you will realize
that nothing else existed but the Atman (Self), and there actually was no process."

The question arrises: what do we expect out of a Master? Should we or rather can we
expect that our ego will be placated? Wouldnt it be more likely that the power
of the mantra would bring immediate results? The shaktipad of the Master heightens
everything even separations and unitings. We are shown glimpses of ourselves
thru others and we are also shown why others are denied blessings that we may
have. Attitude is such an important element on the spiritual path.
I would say other friends here on the forum were learning some very important
lessons thru separations that were instigated in Ammas presence.
This whole situation was dramatically demonstrated for them as well.

We must recognize that the discipline of a Master is one of the greatest
blessings. We can never measure an Avatar by human standards.
Our evolution is always accelerated when being in the presence of a Master.
As human beings we will make no spiritual progress without
the gurus discipline.

We must realize that Gods love often works like a parent
who curbs his/her child. I saw these lessons being given to nitewish , anne and elfun in the presence of Amma.  Our desires are brought to our attention and we are separated
from those we love because it was not meant to be or we are shown the obstacles that we ourselves place in the progress of relationships of more importance. Sometime I will tell you about the discipline that I recieved at Ammas  and Paramahansa Yoganandas feet that helped me spiritually. it is awesome to think about what mischief a Master can create ask namaste what Amma did to him and i. if you sensed some unusual things happening in her presence you
are completely right. it is not unusual to be baffled in  the presence of a Master. We will never be able to assess someone like Amma, on human terms. She will give us a totally different view of people and situations. it might take time but the understanding will eventually dawn on us.

Serena I would say that you have a wonderful
mantra. Treasure it. It is your portal to heaven.
