Intereststs; Meditation/Spiritual Life

The purpose of meditation is to still the mind. It is a topic that is vital for those who are trying to meditate. Getting the mind still is a lofty goal. Just remind ourselves it is a lofty goal if we get discouraged. Brother Anandamoy was afraid to stress the stillness because people might get discouraged with meditation. We must not let ourselves get into this DGS syndrome. That is: Devotee Guilt Syndrome. It consists of thinking; I wasn't able to get into the stillness. I must not be a good devotee.

What constitutes stillness? Daya Mata said that the consciousness is very alert but there are no thoughts on the lake of the mind. There is no thinking, no chanting and no praying in this state. It is not just an empty state but there is communion with God. It is a high state of consciousness.

The nature of creation is restlessness. 'For those who find communion with God find entrance into silence.'~P.Y.

These are some points to remember;

1.The goal of life is God. The immediate goal is peace.

2.God has created a world of delusion. He realizes this and he has also given us a way out; by stillness.  The purpose of the techniques is stillness. All the confusion in the world is in the mind.

3. Always build into the routine of meditation practice a period of stillness. A time we devote to being still.

4. The results of meditation we must surrender to God. The greater the perfection the soul aspires for; the more it is dependent on divine grace.
